moving soon.
have to clean the carpets in 5 rooms.
we intend to hire a rugdoctor for the job.
do you have experience with this mashine? how long would I need to clean 5 large rooms (generous double rooms)? hard work or realistic in a day?

I do as we inherited (bought) a house with cream carpets... and we have a toddler and newborn Grin.

I have a Vax (a good machine - RugDoctor should be better as a pro machine) and it recently took me about 3 hours to do family room, hallway, heavy footfall areas of study and about half the dining room (the worse bits - gets a lot of abuse from food and DH as it's the first room he enters on returning from work; he's not very good at respecting the amount of time it takes me to effing clean and doesn't always remove shoes).

However I had to tidy a lot; you also dry vacuum before using the cleaning machine, so it's like you have to do everything twice. Your tanks will hopefully be bigger and need replenishing less often and I presume you will have empty rooms.

Even so 5 doubles - I'd say 4-5 hours.

thank you very much, so will hire the mashine for 2 days just in case. so I can do one place one day and the other on the next.

We bought a Vax carpet cleaner machine. About £100. Best thing since sliced bread. Works like an ordinary upright vacuum except it sprays liquid onto the carpet then sucks it up. Pull off the box and pour it down the bath (to get a better look at the disgusting filth that came off the carpet). Having two sons and two dogs I would suggest you get rid of carpets altogether and replace with solid floors. They are hoovered and then mopped with disinfectant. We have replaced all our carpets with solid floors except for the stairs and landing. We only kept that as we're selling. Next house will have solid floor stair and landing covering too.

Rug doctor is fab! If you clean each room once you could do it all in half a day. I like to clean them til the water runs clear and some rooms can take 4 or 5 cleans.2 days would do it like a new pin!
