Shoes all over the house,where do you keep shoes ?

We are a family of 4 and have what I would guess is an average amount of shoes.
They are every where, kitchen, bedrooms (wardrobe, underbed and side of bed) and a pile by the front door.
I have had fancy shoe boxes, a storage thing from argos and big plastic tubs.
Looked at ikea but they just don't hold enough.
So my question is how do you do it ?
Which rooms ?
What kind of storage system ?
And will your family put them away?

No perfect solution, I have tried loads. Currently, I keep most of my shoes in racks in my wardrobe and under my bed. DH keeps his in an almighty heap in his wardrobe and under bed. We have wellies in a basket in the the kitchen near back door, and the kids shoes in a cupboard in the hall.

Nightmare.

this is my total total hate. DH has massive great police shoes and trainers all over the sodding place; ds has filthy trainers, football boots and school shoes; dd has boots, sandals, flip flops, trainers, wellies. ARGHHH. I have a box in the kitchen with the filthiest lot in, then try to put some in the understairs cupboard on a 'shoe rack', mine are in our bedroom on the floor and in a cupboard and dd's are in her playroom and bedroom. It is a complete nightmare. I have tried to get a solution to this for 14 years!!!

Coats are as bad [sa]. Say each person owns 4 coats/jackets. If that was us, there would be 16, but we all own loads more than that ue to British weather.

When there were 6 of us it was hell. Especially in winter, with big thick padded and woolly things..............and scarves, gloves, hats, snoods, wraps, wellie sock and whatevers....

There are six of us, and the shoes are multiplying! I do try and stick out of season shoes in bedrooms at least. Adult shoes on wooden shoe racks which I have to tidy every day (grr dp). Kids shoes in biggish basket, wellies on racks in porch. Works pretty well but we need a bigger basket cos kids feet are bigger. They can just about manage wellies on a rack but anything other than a basket is asking for trouble imo!

We have a show cupboard in the porch - still have to collect them from around the house though...

Smart shoes in bottom of wardrobe as hardly worn:) everyday shoes in large hall cupboard with doors and everyone has their own shelf. In reality all shoes end up thrown in anyhow and door slammed shut. Dh keeps his shoes where he takes them off ditto clothes. I weed shoes every month or so. And we try not to buy shoes unless we need them, there is a different rule for me:)
