Genuinely reformed characters?

Hi. I am a new poster looking for inspiration. I have been following the decluttering and general staying on top of the cleaning etc threads with interest. I really want to become better organised and get into a proper cleaning and tidying routine and even - dare I say it - sort out the cupboards and clothes situation for me and the kids. I have never been particularly on top of the housework, even before the kids came along. I would love to be one of those people with a house that is clean and tidy at all times, cupboards and clothes organised. I would like to hear from you whether it is possible to change? Are there some reformed characters out there who have moved from chaos to cleanliness??

Nope. Sorry. It's utterly impossible.

Grin that is my fear! There must be someone who has managed to change their slovenly ways?

I would like to know this too

Me too before the pile next to my wardrobe finally falls on me and smothers me in my sleep. I wish i could just fill one room with clutter things that may become useful one day and leave the others comparatively tidy. Maybe if i stopped wasting spending time on mumsnet my house might become tidier?

mummymacbeth · 09/06/2012 14:49

Yes rufus that is my problem - spending more time reading about doing and less time doing! We know the theory but are not putting it into practice!

I've just been and bought some more bedding plants for my tubs - I can keep tubs well - i do lovely tubs - am proud of my tubs!! The rest of the garden is crap but my tubs are lovely (I wear blinkers to avoid looking at the weed infested sprawl that is my garden) Same as the house - the living room - any one can come in - any other room however is a no go! Though
actually the hall is fine too!! I am going to seriously consider a trip to the tip and reclaim some space in my house - thats my june resolution!!

mummymacbeth · 09/06/2012 20:37

do it!!

and hope your tubs turn out well - that's another thing on my lengthy mental to-do list!

Hi, Are your DC young? I think if they are pre-school (younger than 5) then you have your work cut out! I have been struggling to keep on top of things but today had a good day.

I think it is best to break your big "to do" list down into smaller amounts. I used to --and sometimes still do-- write a big list on an A4 size piece of paper. I would find it too much and give up. so lately I have been doing smaller amounts and smaller lists and find it not so bad. I still have a long way to go but I am starting to see little improvements here and there. Wink

Please feel free to join us HERE if you would like to. We also have a chatty thread too. Smile If you don't want to do Flylady you can still join us and do a list if you like.

We are mostly well organised and clean and tidy, but it it RELENTLESS.

The washing machine is on a lot.

It doesn't help that we run a holiday let and have 5 sets of bedlinen, towels etc to launder every week on top of the household stuff. You can't stop - even 24 hours without washing leads to a mountain!
