Carpet Cleaner - any recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a good carpet cleaner? I'm thinking of something that is a steamer or similar which can be used regularly.

I've just had gorgeous new carpets fitted, prior to DC1's imminent arrival. But, my naughty, beautiful kitty has taken offence and decided they're better if he pees on it. Sad

I've used a steam mop in the past successfully on a wool carpet, but it's bust now, so I'm looking for a good replacement. Have you any recommendations? I'm looking for something which could be run around the perimeter of each carpeted room on a weekly basis.

Get professionals in once every two years for a hot water extraction treatment (not the same as a steam clean). Domestic carpet cleaners simply cannot match the power of professional machines, nor should they be expected to. A domestic machine is great for small spills and occasional freshening up but it cannot and will not clean the deepest layer of carpet properly. They leave traces of soap behind which in turn attract and retain dirt particles more quickly leading to a sudden 'muddy' appearance. To help combat this considerably a second clean/rinse immediately after the first with water only and no detergent will help flush out as much soap residue as possible.

Thanks for joining me MrsWood. I was beginning to feel lonely!! Grin

Allover thanks for recommending VAX. After I started thread DH told me he had one. This must have been in a former life as I have never known him want to do anything nearly so domesticated since 1998, so seems incredibly out of character!

I nearly ordered this. Quite tempted. And is £20 cheaper here than Lakeland. Interested to know if anyone has tried one.

Thanks for the professional view too sparkle. Hate to think I'd be making the problem worse!!
