What kind of moths are they? Do you mean clothes moth? These little buggers will head for a food source to lay their eggs on and there's nothing the larvae love more than to munch on some protein-based textile (wool, silk etc...). They also have a fairly long life cycle, so could potentially be there most of the time, in their various stages. To get rid of them, you will need to have a really thorough clean, as the adults love dark, dusty places. Empty all wardrobes and drawers where you suspect them to be. Wash everything that can be washed and if you see signs of larval activity on clothing, wrap it in a paper bag and pop it in the freezer overnight. This will destroy any eggs, larvae, etc...This website has some good products for protective storage and for repellants:

I hope that helps!

Funnily enough I had been worrying about all the moths in our "new" house (which is actually rather old) into which we have just moved. Have just splashed out on a big chest deep freeze so think I'll go with the advice and stick all my clothes into it! It's so boring digging out your big woolly jumpers each winter only to discover they are full of holes!

Thanks for the advice.

Omg! Thought I was the only person experiencing this! moved in 14months ago and the at first I thought they must be coming in from outside and then I noticed more and more of them! Mostly in my living room so u went and bought one of those DIY fumigation bombs from pets at home and the next day there were loads dead so u done it a few more times and they got less and less then the winter come and there was none, perfect! a few weeks ago I noticed one flying around and have spotted a few more since, nothing like before though. I just don't get it though! it makes me feel like my home isn't clean.

If they are clothes moths you will notice little holes in your woollies - and watch out on carpets also.I would treat with a specialist spray.

Ordinary moths - are you sure its not just a case of a window thats left open a crack at night time with the light on? We get a huge midge problem as we're near water and I have to be SO careful that the loo window isn't open a crack with the hall light left on overnight or we're infested.

I get little ones in one place - the curtains in my front room. I buy those plastic moth repellant things from Robert Dyas and hang them in the back of the curtains. Works a treat. If you go to Robert Dyas they have got about a hundred different ways of killing moths and all sorts of bugs!
