Cleaning white school shirts.

idobelieveinfairies · 07/06/2012 19:04

The teenagers have white school shirts that are a bit grubby now round the cuffs mainly. Tried vanish and other shop bought stain removers and washing on a 60 degree wash but they have made no difference. I was hoping they would last the next 6 weeks but everytime i look at them they are making me cringe Blush

Any ideas? Smile

Soak them overnight in Napisan or Biotex.

I soak mine in bleach. I know it's bad and wrong and I'll rot in hell but it works.

I find soaking in Biotex helps, but I'm afraid I resort to 5 new ones every term as they just look a bit knackered after so many washes.

I would soak them in bleach. bit wiffy and not very ecologically sound. does make them nice and white though.

What ratio bleach to water do you soak them in? Does it bleach the logo?

idobelieveinfairies · 07/06/2012 19:38

Might try the bleach route then.....really don't want to buy new ones as they are year 9 and if they are anything like their older brother they'll grow a lot this summer.

Will they shrink if i do a 90 degree wash?

Moomoo - I'm talking standard white polo shirts, so no logo. I just fill a bucket and add a few generous squirts of bleach. Poking the shirts into the bleachy water without splashing yourself is the real challenge.

Lemon juice works well on mine, or rather the brood's. I don't get grubby cuffs, I'm a laydeeGrin

IloveJudgeJudy · 08/06/2012 22:34

I put handwash or Ariel on the cuffs and collar with a toothbrush and rub it in before I put them in the washing machine.

what about net-curtain whitener?
