I'm doing a house rescue thingy. Came back from holiday four days ago and havnt unpacked Blush or done washing. I spent all day yesterday out of house feeding ds6 lunch and dinner out. Dh came home to leftovers and said something pointed about getting an ironing service. So today is my 'day in' to sort house.

DS up 930 ish and helped himself from fridge for breakfast
DD 4mnths fed at 530, 830, slept with me in bed till 11 am Blush DS on wii.
We have just snacked on absolute rubbish til now. All still in pjs.

Slattern and slummy, I think im a slumtern, not for long.. Right heres my list im working through.

Master bedroom

Bathroom
Scoop up towels
Clean

DS room
Put toys away

A fellow list maker Grin

I started tackling the house on Tuesday evening after a holiday then 7 solid days of ill children and ill me. Last night I went to bed with most of the ground floor immaculate except the utility which remains a wasteland Oh the feeling! My list now looks like:

  • Tidy suitcases & clothes in our bedroom
  • Tidy DD's bedroom and wardrobe (she pulled all her clothes onto the floor last week and I was too ill to pick them up. She's only 2 btw or she'd be doing it herself)
  • Wash & put away the rest of the clothes and catch up on the ironing
  • Sweep & mop the kitchen & utility room floors
  • Tidy all the gardening stuff up in the garage
  • Start packing for our next holiday in just under 3 weeks Hmm

At some point I will also need to tackle the shower, but we have a septic tank and can't use most chemicals, so that's another story.

Originalplurker · 07/06/2012 14:28

Right break over ds has tidied his Lego away, I'm off to inspect.
Dd is fed and studying ds playing in her bumbo, let's see that'll last for 10 minutes.... Oh she is a little Velcro baby at times.

Wonder what's on itv player.....I can take that with me

Right definitely off. Bloody rain, is it worth doing anymore laundry.

Oh hellos desperately waves to never didn't sees you there.

Sympathies for illnesses, it's not just the time your ill n dealing with I'll children, it really knocks you off your routine, as does holiday, despite leaving the house immaculate, and it was a pain having DH off for double bank holiday following holiday, he does help with everything but never feel I can get organised re housework.

Think I read on trinitys thread that people use method for showers its supposed to be free of chemicals but know this is expensive compared to flash.

Oh my, wasn't expecting to have to cope with thoughts of ironing or garages, you are braves.

I think I lurked on Trinity's thread yesterday but I can't find it now. I couldn't think of anything useful to say although I felt for her terribly. Can you link to it?

Originalplurker · 07/06/2012 17:36

Oh right here it is, I did feel for her, I have been there and tried todo fly lady, but what I did was actually two weeks of intensive tidying and scrubbing.

Well done you, and thanks for the link.

I naturally tend towards disorder although, bizarrely, I'm also a bit of a perfectionist. So I have perfectly ordered, colour coded cupboards but an often too lazy to actually put stuff back in them. My saving grace is that I like everything put away and all surfaces clear before I go to bed every night so I keep on top of it. To be perfectly honest I've been shocked by exactly how 'out of hand' the mess got with just one week of no tidying up.

I did have to live in dust and disorder when DH & I undertook a major building project some years back though and, despite not being huge consumers, we did accumulate a surprising amount of clutter due to living pretty much out of boxes. It made me realise that without a fairly robust storage system I'd be pooped. I can really understand how people end up like Trinity and how impossible it must seem to get out of it.

Originalplurker · 08/06/2012 02:07

Well I've surpassed myself I'm done look at the bloody time. In short I scrambled about to do downstairs as takeaway due at 8pm. Had that then did kitchen, ironed the shirt, bathed dd then went off to tescos.

It wasn't a pleasant experience. Rain, smokers n nighttime shells stackers they like zombies that grunt at you.

So nevers thanks for joining in, did you get done? I too have perfectionist tendencies but swing widly to kaos n oh feck it at times. Y y, re stop tidying for a few days, I mean why should I it was my bank holiday too. Colour coded boxes sound ahem great.

Yes my favourite thing is why do we have all this stuff, I'm not going to make same mistakes with dd stuff, though can't wait to buy her dolls.

My saving grace is I now at least get things to their own rooms, laundry done once a day so not normally problem, though ironing is.

Right that's me done, I'm out all day tomorrow on playdate which has a nice adult area for coffee then whoopee out with DH for curry n he's paying for everything.

Smile

Ironing is always a problem here. I started by instigating an ironing basket and having an ironing night once a week, but with only limited success. Now I assess each item and only stuff that really needs ironing goes in the basket with everything else being hung up and just ironed before wearing if we are going somewhere nice. If it's just being worn around the house/garden it gets worn crumpled! My friend irons underwear though, and has been known to take my ironing basket home with her in frustration.

Well done on getting finished even if you did have to pull a night shift to do it Shock I put the children to bed, got halfway through my sweep of the house then felt that all to familiar sicky feeling. So I spent my evening alternating between bed and vomiting. Yuck. Feeling fragile but otherwise ok this morning but I'm thinking it best not to push myself too much today.

Originalplurker · 08/06/2012 07:52

Hmm, I think I'll try to have a time slot designated for ironing. I really need to iron polo shirts for dc's as not hidden under jumper and shirts for DH it's part of our agreed 'roles'

I had a tummy bug last week with nausea and loss of appetite but mainly quite severe diahorrea (sp?) it spoilt first two days of holiday really. I've still had some grumblings this week, I t seems to take a while to get over. Get well soon.

So I'm on second day really, as have tones of laundry, inc separate washes for dd. No cooking today.
