hungry washing machine??

I keep finding tiny holes in our clothes.
I have examined the drum of the washing machine but can't feel anything sticking out or sharp.
DH has had a look to no avail either.

Am I missing something or do I need to call out an extortionate Washing Machine Man?!

I had the same thing when our washing machine was new, and I started using the spin on 900 (medium spin setting) rather than 1400 (the fastest) and it seems to have solved the problem. On the fastest spin setting it sounds like it's going to take off, so I assume it was just too violent for the clothes! Medium is perfectly fine and doesn't leave clothes dripping.

Ah, perhaps I'll try that.
Machine isn't new but it's worth a punt!

Or, are you washing delicate clothes with clothes that have zips/metal buttons/buckles on? Could also be the culprit.

It's not moths, is it?

blondiep14 · 06/06/2012 16:20

Not sure, 90% of our clothes are cotton and noit delicate. Jumpers and anything remotely flimsy goes on a delicates cycle.

I have wondered and worried about moths - would I not see a moth?? How do I eliminate them from enquiries?!

If it's just tiny holes in tshirts, that's what was happening to us and it was being caused by the violent washing machine, not moths. Moths would be eating your woollens first and the holes are big, ime!

blondiep14 · 06/06/2012 16:40

There's tiny holes in jumpers too tho - even when they're only on a delicate cycle Confused!

Thats more worrying. Maybe google getting rid of moths and mothproof everything just incase? I use Zensect mothballs from John Lewis, they don't smell and seem to work.

Thanks for the tip Olive. I shall try them and see if the holes stop appearing!
They seem to crop up sporadically with no rhyme or reason I can fathom.
