ever since that hot weather a week or so ago. At the time they were all over the place, and I sprayed flykiller down on the floor along routes they were using. Don't see them on the floor anymore, but they still keep appearing on worksurfaces. I keep cleaning, and squishing any I see, but they keep coming back Don't know where they are coming from.

Don't really want to spray poison all over my worksurfaces, so does anyone know another way to discourage the little buggers?

Don't know but your title made me giggle - a miracle when I'm doing the night feed Grin

I don't know but I think "I'm going to kill those ants, that's what I'm going to kill those ants"

Also loved the title.

You can buy ant trap thingys which you put on the floor. They contain a sweet substance which they take back to their nest which then poisons the nest. You can get them in supermarkets.

Thanks! I might try that, but they don't seem to be coming over the floors now.

Does anyone know of a sort of organic way of discouraging ants?

Sage in little pots apparently ants hate it. My mum swears by it but she is crazy Grin

Peppermint oil on a cottonwood ball is meant to deter them

Keep absolutely everything in sealed plastic containers, like Tupperware. It's the only way. Cereal, spices, pasta... everything. Please don't use poison, it's so bad for the environment, kids, pets, etc.

We've just had the same issue and I totally freaked out when I found them on the steriliser, in all my cupboards etc. my DH put down a Nippon ant thingy (got it from a garden centre) which contains stuff they take back to the nest. We hid ours under the kitchen units behind the kick boards. I totally understand about not wanting to harm environment etc and my kitchen was do tidy - but all it took was 1 crumb from something and they'd swarm. I found it distressing.
The Nippon thing (it's a circular one about an inch high) said it would take 7-10 days but we noticed an improvement immediately and we're any free.....

Lemon juice, spray or wipe mainly where they come in then spritz around a bit on the surfaces, they hate acid so that and vinegar, I once used orange oil to clean a wooden bench top and I could watch them tip toe round where I'd been.

Then sit down and drink some red red wine

Nippon Liquid, comes in a miniature toothpaste tube, put a couple of drops on a non-absorbent surface such as a clean coin where they will find it, for example inside or under food cabinets or near pets feeding bowl. They will carry it back to the nest to share. Renew the drops until no more ants are seen, most will go in a few days.

Mop up all traces of ant food, especially spilt sugary drinks or food, and pets food on the floor.

It really does work
