Does anyone know how to use a Tupperware rice cooker?

At least I think that's what it is! It's large and square with a inner bit with holes in. I got it from a charity shop but it's missing the instructions.

Surely this is the best place to find someone with this knowledge!

Is it orange? My Mum had one. Don't know how to use it though :)

FizzyLaces · 04/06/2012 00:11

That was not at all helpful, sorry!

TeddingtonsMarchingBand · 04/06/2012 00:15

Put one cup of rice in. Cover with freshly boiled water, about 1cm above the rice. Cook in microwave for 8 mins plus leave to stand a bit after. Fluff up rice with a fork.
This is what I do but mine is round not square. Might need to adjust timings a bit.

IHeartKingThistle · 04/06/2012 00:35

It is kind of terracotta orange, yes!

Thanks Teddington! Silly question but does the rice go in the bottom? What's the bit with holes in for?

I LOVE that I can ask this question at midnight and get an answer! Love MN Smile

I had one, and I am sure you just put the rice in, cover with boiling water and put the lid on and leave it. Can't remember the amounts or time though. Is there a facebook tupperware page you could ask on Smile

oshuk · 04/06/2012 01:14

Meant to say, you can also use them for poaching fish, defrosting and making yoghurt.

OptimisticPessimist · 04/06/2012 09:27

My parents have one (probably also for about 20 years - my Mum used to do Tupperware parties when I was little and consequently they have piles of the stuff), and they use it as Toughasoldboots describes.

BlackandGold · 04/06/2012 09:31

Mine's cream and came from Lakeland but, yes, put the rice in the bit with the holes then pour in boiling water and pop in the microwave for about 10mins.
I then lift out the basket with the rice, drain and serve.

FizzyLaces · 04/06/2012 10:15

tough My Mum must have done that as she didn't have a microwave until about 2 years ago :) I would really like one and am off to ebay!

I dont think you can use the Tupperware one in the m/w - the one I used to have you poured boiling water over the rice and just left it with lid on for ages. I replaced it with the round version from Lakeland which is designed for m/w use and (IMO) much better.

Have you tried a Google search? Just to make sure which version you have - you really dont want to be putting something plastic in a m/w that isnt suitable - that could turn out to be a very expensive charity shop buy (visions of big pile of melted orange plastic on M/w turntable )

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/06/2012 12:20

Mine isn't Tupperware and it is cream and round but sounds similar -
I sit the rice (about 12 ounces) on the basket bit with the holes in, then sit that inside the outer bit. Cover with about a litre of boiling water then cook for ten mins. It's lovely if you add half a pot of creamed coconut and some spices to it too.

IHeartKingThistle · 04/06/2012 22:16

Eek! Not my new microwave!

Thanks everyone, varying opinions there! I need to research some more I think!

Someone might read it. My dau was born in 1976 and I bought my Tupperware Multi Server before then.

my first was terracotta with a cream lid but I have several in a few colours. The insert/colander that fits inside is thst sort of plastic which absorbs tomato and it gets stained and these stains cannot be washed out BUT IF YOU PUT IT IN SUNLIGHT the stains will fade. You may have to tilt the insert in different directions to get direct sunlight on the stained parts. The sunlight also works through glass.

You can do the most fluffy rice like this.

I stick the rice in the insert and wet with cold water. Drain and place in the base. Pour boiling water over the rice and allow the boiling water to drain into the base but stop when the water can be seen just peeping through the drain holes. Put the loose lid on and 6 mins in microwave (mine is a 750) after time is up lift out and Put on flat surface and open lid FACING AWAY FROM YOU to let steam escape - stir the rice and move from one corner. Through the space in the corner pour in more boiling water (but not in the rice). When the water as before is peeping through the holes out the lid back on loosely and give the rice another 5 or 6 minutes. If you are ready to use the rice then lift the lid facing away from you to let the steam out. Hold the insert up so if it drops water goes into the base. You can then spoon out lovely fluffy rice which has not been sat in water and got heavy. ..

If you are not ready for the rice for a few minutes DO NOT REMOVE THE LID, press the dome of the closed lid with the heel of your hand and it will SEAL. Just leave for any steam to become water again and the lid will become loose again.

You can pour any veg. you have ready while cooking your meat into the Multi Server with enough of the veg's water to fill the base of some of the base again the water should just peep through the holes of the insert. Lid on and press down with heel of hand thus the veg continues to steam and won't get soggy. See above.

IMPORTANT - Never put the Multi Server back in the microwave full of steam and sealed with your hand or it will be permanently sealed. I did this once without thinking and waited till the server was cold. I tried to get the lid off with tools and eventually used a thick screwdriver - the food was ok but the lid had to be thrown away.

This is not the microwave model, you cover the amount if rice you want yo make in a pot with water, you bring to boil then simmer for 5 minutes, you then pour the rice and water into your rice cooker (that is base and hole section put lid back on and leave for 15 minutes, when you remove lid rice should be ready to use, just plump it up with a fork and wonderful rice ready to use.

Quite a few links here with instructions for the Tupperware multi server.
I have one myself kicking around somewhere, I tend to use it when I cook a chicken and pull all the meat off to store it in the fridge.

A tupperware steamer is superbly easy and make lovely fluffy rice every time.
First put one cup of rice ( per person) into a ban of boiling water and boil for 5 minutes. Then tip the whole lot into the steamer and put the lid on firmly. You can use boiling water from the kettle to wash out the oddments of rice from the pan and again put it all into the steamer & cover. Wait 25 minutes and voila! Soft fluffy rice

I used to be a Tupperware rep. The item OP is describing is a “multi server” and we always said it shouldn’t be microwaved. This link has some instructions. tupperwarequeen.co.uk/products/tupperware-multi-server
