Ok, am I missing something but the freestanding rotary lines, do they need a hole to stand in? Because otherwise they will just blow over like an airer....TIA

yes they need a hole, or a spike to go into grass

cahu · 02/06/2012 22:35

Ahh, thanks, thought so... Haven't got a hole in patio or grass so no good for me.

My neighbour has hers in one of those heavy metal parasol holders-I thought that was inspired!

cahu · 02/06/2012 22:39

Ooo, Sparkles, good idea, are they ££££ do you know? On strict budget at mo....The parasol holders I mean, off to google...

parasol bases are about £20 from Argos but needs to be a small rotary washing line and be careful of sheets on windy days Grin

cahu · 02/06/2012 22:47

Thanks workshy, so it would have to be a portable type?

you want something like this whirlygig

with one of these

but they are designed to go into the ground so there is a potential for it to tip if you are drying big things on a windy day but ordinarily it will be fine

cahu · 02/06/2012 23:15

Thanks workshy, just what I need.

And I think it will be ok as I can't dry sheets or towels outside due to hayfever so no bulk, no tip hopefully. Thanks again.

You can buy the stakes that go in the ground from homebase, then you just whack it into the grass with a mallet. Much more sturdy and no more expensive than the parasol holder.

cahu · 02/06/2012 23:22

Sarcalogos, no grass, that's my problem.

Ah sorry, misread. In which case yeah, parasol full of sand/water to weigh down.

HokeyCokeyJubileeMyArse · 02/06/2012 23:51

This one is free standing, no grass or hole needed!

1sassylassy · 02/06/2012 23:54

I have one of those free standing ones that Hokey linked to,just wedge three bricks in the bottom and its fine, not huge but holds a full load, just make sure to hang heavy stuff out evenly.

cahu · 03/06/2012 00:08

Thanks everyone, now can't decide whether I need the tripod one or the one which needs a parasol stand .....!

if you have a concrete patio, it is possible to drill a hole in it. A big drill can be hired.

have you nowhere a washing line could be strung?

fuckarama · 03/06/2012 18:03

You can get a square of wood, put it on your patio.

Get an old tyre and some postcrete (I think that's what it's called - you need 2 bags iirc, maybe 3 - you can get B&Q version)

Put tyre on plywood.

Fill with postcrete. Add water.

QUICKLY Put the hole-y tube bit that the whirly line goes into in the concrete, level it and leave to set.

When dry 2 or 3 days later, remove plywood.

Ta-Da!
