How much time roughly has it saved you each week, once it's all up and running? And do you find you spend less?

OP posts:

I have a saved basket with Tesco and I add to it throughout the week if things are running low. It takes no time at all really and I spend less as I'm not sidetracked by things I don't need.

mirpuppet · 02/06/2012 17:45

I like the time it saves me -- I haven't calculated monetary savings.

HilaryM · 02/06/2012 17:49

It takes about 10-15 minutes every week to check what we need and adjust the automatic order. Less if I note down what we're running low on/ need for next week, as we go along.

cybbo · 02/06/2012 17:49

It saves me about 2 hours a week and several points on the blood pressure scale.

I spend about the same but by god it's worth it

SpottyTeacakes · 02/06/2012 17:50

I reckon I spend at least £20 more if I go to the store. I'm not very good at sticking to the list though Blush

SpottyTeacakes · 02/06/2012 17:53

Also saves me over an hour each week

saythatagain · 02/06/2012 18:01

It's the time it saves more than anything. I too keep a running basket that I add to throughout the week......mainly increasing the vino!

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 02/06/2012 18:02

Spend far less. I spend £80 max on line, I had to do a real shop today as our broadband has been up and down this week and it cost me over £100.

cybbo · 02/06/2012 18:04

It's the interminable putting all the items in the trolley, taking them out onto conveyor belt, putting them back in, taking it it to put in car, taking it it to bring into house BLAH BLAH BLAH

I don't know why anyone goes in a shop these days

Wingdingdong · 02/06/2012 22:06

"I don't know why anyone goes in a shop these days"

Because the fresh vegetables/fruit from Ocado are awful. Seriously. We've never yet had an edible bag of apples from them, the bananas are always bruised, the broccoli is all stalk, the potatoes are often rotten, etc.

I do most of the shopping online once a week, then go to Sainsbury's for a couple of top-up shops each week - fruit and veg, fresh milk and bread (since these don't last a week!).

I have a toddler and a 3m baby and a supermarket shop with those two is not fun, punctuated as it is by at least three trips to the loo and a feeding stint in the cafe, so online shopping is time-saving for me (I get it delivered whilst DD's eating her breakfast v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y). I then do my top-up supermarket shops late at night, but they're quite quick because there's not so much to buy. I also look out for special offers, especially on meat, as it can be a lot cheaper and I prefer to see what I'm getting.

cambridgeferret · 02/06/2012 22:17

Online saves us about 2 hours a week, it also saves me having to drag the kids away from the sweets and DH out of the wine section.
Normal bill is around £100 pw. Last on foot Waitrose shop was £200 + with impulse buys of wine, beer and anything Moshi related.

cybbo · 02/06/2012 22:22

The veg and fruit I've had from Ocado has always been excellent. You have a rotten picker at your depot!

AdoraBell · 03/06/2012 03:05

I used to love the online facility when I lived in the UK but I can't trust it here in Chile. Relabelling is problem here, as in use by dates on perishables, so I always want to see-n-sniff what I'm buying.

mirpuppet · 03/06/2012 10:27

Wingdingdong -- you should complain & they will refund your money & perhaps be more careful when picking your fruit & veg.

With Ocado I have found the Waitrose labeled products last a lot longer than Ocado own brand so I stick to Waitrose.

I also complain if they give me something to close to use by date and they refund me.

Pascha · 03/06/2012 10:43

It always takes me as long online as it does in the shop, I like to check items are still good value compared to other brands and that means I can't just keep a saved list. I get bored halfway through and have to come back to it later.

I still like to go shopping (preferably minus child) and browse the shelves for cheapest prices. And yes, it is tedious to load/unload/load/unload/put away. And yes, I do hate the whole palaver.

It pisses me off that I think this way Angry. I would looove to just let myself tick a list and done.

CarpeJugulum · 03/06/2012 11:08

I tend to do the major grocery shopping online (either Tesco or Sainsburys) and then pop to ASDA with DS once a week to buy two items:

  • a pizza for dinner
  • the local paper

DS loves ASDA, but despite only needing two things costing under a £5 for both, I can still come out with about £25-30 worth of stuff.

Online, I monitor and I'm not sidetracked. DH and I both have a tesco app on the phone with the same user details, so he can add stuff too and I can take it out

Masalamama · 03/06/2012 11:33

Saves a fortune in the crap you don't buy and tons of hassle! I ave a weekly budget and just stick to it online...

AdventuresWithVoles · 03/06/2012 11:51

I loathe online grocery shopping. It just works so badly for me.

I don't impulse purchase, though.
