Wipe-clean sofa

Does such a thing exist?

Our sofa is a 5 year old Ektorp from Ikea, it's been great, and still looks fine actually, but DS dribbles etc on it. The covers are dry cleanable I think .

Is it time to get a new wipe-clean sofa? Are good quality leather sofas immune to small children? I've never been so keen on leather sofas, but if there's one that's resistant to DS I might reconsider.

leather ones are quite uncomforatble in warm weather against bare skin (shorts and T-shirt sort of thing). Additionally felt-tip[, or claw damage from cats, will look far worse than on fabric. So although they look good I would relectantly not have again.

If you are thinking of buying again, I would consider getting two sets of covers.

p.s.

as an interim you could use washable throws.

Acrylic fleece ones get scruffy after being washed multiple times, but they are cheap enough that you can have a leopard-skin pattern as well as tartan and beige, depending on your personal whim.

We have leather sofas and they are pretty resistant - we have 2 cats and they've never scratched them and we've spilled countless drinks & dinners on them and they wipe clean. You have to be careful what leather you choose though, the one we liked was uncoated and they are supposed to 'age' and show marks, so we got one with an ugly coated finish and the leather is less attractive, but more durable.

We have a sofa from Ikea with three sets of covers which are machine washable at 60 degrees. That gets rid of just about every stain, and the three sets means we always have at least one set clean for emergencies. We also chose a dark red colour rather than an easily-dirtied white or beige.

Second what piglet said about leather - that feeling of peeling sweaty skin off the sofa, ewww. Ektorp is still sold by Ikea, isn't it, so you could think about a replacement cover already - are you sure they're not machine washable?

Thanks for the replies, I'll continue to mull it over Smile.
