Bio V Non Bio - help!

I've used non bio for ever, my mum used it when I developed Excema when I was 12 and when I set up home myself it's all I've ever used.

Recently my washing machine has been STINKING. I've done a bit of googling research and it seems that non bio washing products and low temps might be to blame. I have tried putting my washing machine on a hot emty load with vinegar (usually keeps smells at bay) but it wasn't cutting it.

I bought some bio powder today and my machine is currently on a hot wash. It smells lovely!

My skin has settled down, my excema is hormone related so powder isn't going to affect it. I do have a new baby though. Do you have to use non-bio?

I just think non-bio doesn't smell as good and you don't get all the choice you get with bio.

Hopefully a couple of washes will solve my smelly machine problem!

have you also cleaned out the filter, the dispenser drawer (pull it out and also clean the compartment it fits into) and cleaned around the rubber seal?

I only used non-bio for a couple of weeks after the kids were born and then switched to bio for all our clothes. None of us have any skin issues so we were fine with it

Evidence that bio powder worsens eczema is entirely anecdotal. So if it works for you, then do it.

I used non-bio for years because I was advised as a foreigner that bio was dodgy & I didn't understand the difference anyway; eventually I just tried bio & it works fine, not dodgy for any of us! Used it with youngest DC from before birth. No problems.

I switched to bio after reading somewhere that it's only really here in the UK that we have this thing about bio being irritant to skin. Personally I think bio does a much better job at cleaning clothes. I have 3 yo, 18m and a baby on the way and I won't be switching back.

It's the hot wash that dissolves the old sludge from tour washing machine, and makes it smell better.

Cool washes tend not to dissolve the detergent well, and it settles into a bacterial sludge of soap, fabsoft and grease. A few very hot washes will clean it away, even with no powder. You can often see the plain water going grey and frothing up as it dissolves the sludge, as long as it is HOT HOT HOT. When it stays clear you know it has washed the machine clean.

I use saniburys smartprice bio, one box lasts me ages and gets the white bedding and towells very clean.

Sainsburys even.
