When using foil do you wrap with the shiny side in or out?

What is the difference between biological washing products and non biological washing products?

Thanks.

If foil in the oven, shiny side in. If on sandwiches, doesn't matter. Biological washing powders have enzymes which "eat" foodstains.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 28/05/2012 23:28

Don't know with the foil.

I think bio has enzymes which break down stains and non bio doesn't?

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 28/05/2012 23:29

I always do shiny side out with foil as it looks prettier though!

mrsmerryberry · 28/05/2012 23:36

Ok, so shiny side in when using foil in oven, got it. Thanks for that oldladyknowsnothing. Does it slow cooking down if you have the shiny side out then??

If the biological products eat stains, why is there a need for non bio stuff, surley everyone would just be interested in the biological products? or does the non bio stuff have some other property within that is better?

I have heard that the enzymes in bio can also eat your woollens though - non bio is generally the choice for people with eczema/sensitive skin.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 28/05/2012 23:42

Apparently shiny side out in the oven reflects heat, which, yes, would slow the cooking time.

Some people are allergic to the enzymes in biological washing powder, and so use non-bio. Bio also "eats" silk! Shock

I'm so glad you are up as late as me everyone, thanks for answering my queries. Oldladyknowsnothing, I think you should change your name to "oldladyknowseverything". Thank you, night night.

:)

LynetteScavo · 28/05/2012 23:52

eh, so if it's shiey side out in the oven, why don't they roll it up the other way in the factory?

RighteousDude · 29/05/2012 00:17

I can't remember what ut is about those enzymes but something I wad told in gcse chemistry made me never ever want to use biological washing powder, I never have although I haven't the foggiest why

FrancesHouseman · 29/05/2012 00:26

The shiny side if the foil reflects the heat away, so is used when you don't want the top of something to burn whilst the rest of it cooks. The dull side absorbs heat, so is good if you're lining the bottom of an oven tray or grill pan.

BackforGood · 29/05/2012 00:36

See, I would have said shiney side out - it just looks right Grin.

Although, now you mention it, the 'science' of shiney side in makes a convincing argument Blush.

Can we still have shiney side out for all times foil isn't going in the over though ? Please. Pretty please ?

I'm glad you asked about washing powder though, as it's one of those things in life I have found myself wondering every now and then.

PigletJohn · 29/05/2012 01:20

the enzymes in bio powders break down proteins.

However they do not remove grease, black dirt, most stains.
