i have a big 6ft bed, the mattress is 11 yrs old.

i have a bad back and would love to replace it.
problem is funding it. Ive just booked a holiday so i need to save money to pay for it.

do i really have to spend about £1000 to get a decent one?
does anywhere do credit anymore? so i can pay an amount monthly.

i don't want to apply for a credit card atm.
thanks

I think you do, our mattress is a tempur and it is the nicest mattress in the world ever

It cost £999 but it was worth every single penny.

ihatethecold · 27/05/2012 14:10

i tried a pillow that is memory foam but i didn't like it. my DD has it now.

would that mean that i wouldn't get on with a memory foam mattress.

i would spend that sort of money. my DH wouldn't.. mind you he doesn't have a bad back !

I can honestly say it is the best nights sleep I've had in my entire life!

Completly different to memory foam pillows IMHO.

PigletJohn · 27/05/2012 15:04

you need to replace it because?

too soft? lumpy? dip in middle?

is it on a sprung base or a hard (padded top) base?

starwarrior · 27/05/2012 18:39

If your bed base is hard i.e. slats, not sprung, its worth thinking about a memory foam topper over a not too expensive firm mattress, would cost a lot less than £1000. It worked well for us when we found our new mattress was too hard, and cured my chronic morning backache, topper cost £86 over 7 years ago still working but looks a bit shabby now so need to get round to ordering another one.
The memory foam topper is completely different foam-wise to the pillows.

ihatethecold · 27/05/2012 18:48

It's on a hard base.
There is a definite dip when I have slept.

Argos have some half price deals. That look good.

If you get a memory foam topper best go for 7cm thickness, more expensive but worth it as 3cm is too thin.

MyLittleMiracles · 27/05/2012 19:52

Try zleeps.co.UK. I have a double memory foam mattress from there which is gorgeous and cost 165 so really cheap but think it was a sale. Worth a look?

MyLittleMiracles · 27/05/2012 19:53

Should also add its not solid memory foam, it has a topping of it and is sprung underneath. Heaven.

RandomMess · 27/05/2012 19:54

I have a soft mattress and thick memory foam topper and my back is so so much better!

cakeandcustard · 27/05/2012 19:59

I got a half price argos deal mattress and its extremely comfortable, I have no complaints so far. I looked at the Which guide and they said memory foam toppers can reduce air circulation so some people find them a bit hot and sweaty.

We got a relatively decent pocket sprung one for a little over £300.

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 27/05/2012 20:03

I got a king size pocket sprung mattress on Anazon for £100.00 (70% off)Cured my bad back overnight .... It is amazing, and had the same spec as ones in John Lewis that retail for £900.

FringeEvent · 27/05/2012 20:05

I have the DeepSleep Futon Mattress from the Futon Company - I sleep so much better on this mattress than I ever have on any other type

FringeEvent · 27/05/2012 20:06

Sorry, forgot to add - it's only £450 for the king size, plus £45 for home delivery

ihatethecold · 28/05/2012 11:44
