I feel crap today. Have a stinking cold and was up during the night coughing like mad. I had intended to do bugger all today, infact this morning I was unsure how i was going to get through the day, which after a cuppa and an hour on mumsnet, did in hindsight seem a little dramatic Grin

However i am rather pleased with what i got through and wondered if i could have a nice big pat on the back. Today I have

-taken my dd to toddler group
-2 loads laundry washed and dried

  • bed stripped and hung out
  • bathed the guinea pig
-hoovered lounge and hall -folded a mountain of laundry -washed kids bedroom windows (there are only 2 but fingerprints galore) -tidied all the clutter off the top of my wardrobe -hoovered and mopped conservatory floor

Still have to...

-wash dc and get them into bed
-put mountain of laundry piles away
-make pack lunches for dc

Now im tired and looking forward to relaxing I really do need a boot up the arse encouragement

Well done, pats back, and hope you feel better tomorrow.

Now, do those laundry piles really need to be sorted tonigh? I mean, the DCs need to be washed -yes- and they'll need to eat lunch tomorrow, but is the planet going to stop revolving if the laundry gets relegated to tomorrow's to do list? Sounds like you need a cuppa and an early night.

Well done!

Can I ask, what did you bath guineas with? Want to do ours but got no special animal shampoos or anything.

shortofbread · 23/05/2012 20:31

Olympia i used some kids shampoo! BUt normally i would just use whatever we have. He has always survived!

Laundry piles might have to go on tmrws list- good idea Adora.... i feel my bed calling me!

Thanks guys. x

Are you supposed to bathe guinea pigs?!

mirry2 · 24/05/2012 00:32

that's what I was wondering as well Augusta. I've never heard of guinea pigs needng a bath.

augustajones · 24/05/2012 00:40

I like the way OP said she uses whatever she has - he's always survived. Hmm

Obviously hasn't tried out the bleach yet...

shortofbread · 24/05/2012 08:55

ha ha at the bleach!! Grin

Guinea pigs do need an occasional bath as some have over producing grease glands that need attention.

Mine is an intact boar and his grease gland is quite horrible. Not as horrible as his penis however which produces smelly little sticks of 'boar glue' which hum. I suppose if he had a lady friend this wouldnt be an issue. He won't be having a lady friend as there are enough unwanted pigs around and so in the meantime he will have to continue survivng the baths!

Any mild shampoo is usually fine, if its good for the kids, its good for the pig. Some gp owners use washing up liquid on the grease glands so my pig got off lightly!

Wouldnt use bleach. Unless i was giving him highlights Grin

I would like a couple of guinea pigs but DH isn't keen. We had them when we were kids and they are great fun.

Are there lots looking for homes? I did look online but could only find one or two.

shortofbread · 25/05/2012 10:51

Hi Augusta there are loads. Always some on gumtree, local rescue centres, rspca.
There is a guinea pig forum too and they have pigs needing homes on there.
I love ours. He is quite a character! Kids love him. My dh is scared of him! He wont handle him without thick gloves Hmm

They are definitely characters.

I did manage to convert DH to cats. Might see if I can do the same for guinea pigs!
