MadameChinLegs · 09/05/2012 19:45

DH is away on business next week, so I set in my mind to gut the house. We have a little baby so ill be in doing not much in the evenings. Got quite excited about it as it obviously would involve making a list Grin

Turns out there are 69 tasks on the list Confused

I can't turn back now, can I?

Can you list them?

I went to see a friend yesterday and her house was so beautiful, I felt so ashamed of our house - I could have moved into her laundry room, it was stunning!

I am feeling enthusiastic about trying to make my house look nice, but get stuck on how to start really.

MadameChinLegs · 09/05/2012 21:09

Oh my god. Well, I went room to room. I have also listed the 'usual' stuff I do in a week too, such as sweeping and mopping, just to make sure I know exactly what I have ahead:

Bleach bins
Sort out the big storage basket
Launder all towels, bath mat and baby bath ramp

Sort the laundry area (cubby under part of the bench)
Clean doors
Clean surfaces and cupboard doors

Cull underwear and pj drawers and bin all damaged/holey socks etc
Sort DDs outgrown clothes into Bin/HandMeDown/Sell
Sweep and Mop (wooden floors)
Clean window, sill and blinds

Front
Wash down front door
De-Weed the little patch we have

Do you mind if I join you? At least half of those are jobs I need to do, the other half are ones that have no hope in happening just yet! :o

MadameChinLegs · 09/05/2012 22:47

The more the merrier! We can support one another on the quest for cleanliness.

At my place of work (a Hotel) we have yearly Brand Standard Audits where head office scrutinise every inch of the Hotel inside and out, every sheet of paperwork etc. It's an intense time, and I have that as my goal for my home. No management walking in deciding to close me down because of a hair in the bath. No Sireee. (though I am the Management, I suppose, in my house...this is going to be tough).

Love the NN btw.

I am going to start on Monday, official like. I shall get in a nice bottle of Rose for Thursday night (DH home on Fri so will be wanting him to treat me to a Take Away for all my efforts).

Also, I am thinking of the calories I may well shift blasting through this lot.

OP posts:
MrsNouveauRichards · 10/05/2012 08:06

Sounds good, but I can assure you I will not be quite at that standard!

Will your DH notice though? I can do loads, DH will say the place looks quite tidy, but won't be able to tell you what it is I have actually done :o

MadameChinLegs · 10/05/2012 10:21

Ah, Im not doing for DHs benefit though...it's for mine Grin

DH would happily live in a hovel if left to his own devices. But, as I am on Mat Leave I spend too much time in the house so would like it to be perfect Grin

OP posts:
MrsNouveauRichards · 11/05/2012 17:37

Ok, so what is the first job for Monday? I need to prepare!

MadameChinLegs · 11/05/2012 17:57

Hmm....I think it will be all of the Bathroom Jobs.

I might cheat and start the Bedroom Jobs on Sunday when DH is still here as he can entertain DD while I scrub.

OP posts:
MrsNouveauRichards · 14/05/2012 06:39

I'm afraid I am going to do my own 'slatterns' version of the list :o

Bathroom
Clean loo - including behind, sides etc
Clean sink - including outside
Clean bath
Clean shower
Clean window and sill
Wash shower curtain
Wipe down radiator and towel rail
Wipe down door
Empty bin and bleach
Hoover and mop

Now remember this is aspirational :o I am going to 'attempt' these things and see how we get on....

Cromwell44 · 14/05/2012 12:44

I'm keeping this list safe until my DD has finished her AS exams and has 6 weeks of free time and a need for cash - hee hee, evil mother that I am.

GnocchiNineDoors · 14/05/2012 13:50

I was naughty and started a little bit yesterday, but am spirited by the fact that I can cross stuff off my list Grin

Done all the Hallway Jobs, all the Bathroom Jobs and a couple of DD's bedroom jobs. Phew.

Am going to tackle the master bedroom tonight with a glass of Wine and a film on the laptop to keep me company.

GnocchiNineDoors · 14/05/2012 13:51

Cromwell great idea! £1 a task (done to a high standard) should earn her a nice little fund to keep her ticking over on the holidays.

MrsNouveauRichards · 14/05/2012 16:27

Genius :o

Not done as much as I had hoped, but seeing as I have been out most of the day, probably not doing too bad. Will update later....

MrsNouveauRichards · 14/05/2012 21:14

Bathroom
Clean loo - including behind, sides etc DONE
Clean sink - including outside DONE
Clean bath
Clean shower
Clean window and sill
Wash shower curtain *DONE
Wipe down radiator and towel rail DONE
Wipe down door
Empty bin and bleach DONE
Hoover and mop DONE

Not too bad.

Tomorrow I shall have a go at the kitchen:

Empty dishy
Empty draining board
Clear worktops
Clean microwave
Clean fridge handles
Sweep and mop floor

GnocchiNineDoors · 14/05/2012 22:03

MrsNouveauRichards that's £6 you can treat yourself with now.

I started tidying the bedroom, but put The crap yet watchable Proposal on in the background as it was the only film on Iplayer, and ended up only tidying the bedside tables and under the bed. Never mind Grin

Think i'll tackle my kitchen tomorrow.

Thankfully, DD is still having three naps a day, so I have been forcing myself to do cleaning etc in each 45min slot, whereas up til now Ive been mumsnetting. Also, I just got her one of those door bouncers, so she bounced in that in her bedroom doorway while I sorted her room out.

MrsNouveauRichards · 16/05/2012 07:32

Failed miserably yesterday, so going to attempt the kitchen list again today.

poocatcherchampion · 16/05/2012 07:37

Come on ladies I'm rooting for you!!! (then pop over here and do a few bits and pieces for me?)

Purplehonesty · 16/05/2012 08:00

If you buy a washing wire rather than a plastic line you never have to clean it!
For some reason the wire never gets dirty. But then we live in n scotland so maybe air is cleaner
Thought it might save you a job tho...!

GnocchiNineDoors · 16/05/2012 09:06

Thanks for the tip. Would it not be a garrotting (sp?) hazard, DH is rather tall Grin

I failed too, MysNV, DD has a dreadful night's sleep so I napped every time she did. Managed to sort all the laundry and clothes in the bedroom though last night. Pretty mammoth task as all clothes had sloppily ended up just being chucked into the Travel Cot which we have yet to pack away.

expectingmysecond · 16/05/2012 11:31

Don't you love spring cleaning time?

I finished last month all my Spring Cleaning, it took me a while but i finally got there, (well except for outside that needs a good clean up). However this year i did a bit extra after spring cleaning each room. I sprayed each surface in the room with these products www.maxgermguard.com which form this invisible barrier so dirt cant fully settle and can just be wiped away with a cloth and warm water.

So far in the past month the amount of time i spend cleaning has been cut down amazingly, especially in the bathroom where just a wipe of the tiles leaves them lovely and shiny.

Allows me more time to relax with a glass of Wine

MrsNouveauRichards · 16/05/2012 12:43

I still have to clean in the first place though? :o

Been out all morning, but have got my 3rd lot of washing on and have just finished lunch. Just having a little sit down then will empty and reload dishy, do any other washing up and wipe down worktops. Then out again until 7pm, so maybe the floor may have to wait til tomorrow....
