Can a combi microwave completely replace conventional oven?

We're currently refurbishing our kitchen and would like to minimize the number of appliances / gadgets as much as possible. I've only ever owned a standard microwave which I only really use for heating baby food & milk for coffee so have no idea about combi microwaves. From what I hear they can pretty much replace a conventional oven. Is this really the case? We are nearly a family of 4, and although not overly ambitious in the kitchen we do cook a fair amount. Size-wise there seems to be ones that are pretty much the same size as a standard 60 oven, so what is the difference other than having more flexibility with the combi?

Thanks!

Yes, a combi can replace a conventional, though they are not usually anywhere near as big inside. Remember the controls and the magnetron and the motor are all inside the casing. A full size oven is 60cm wide and 60cm deep as well, with the controls on top rather than at the side.

Consider if you will have to cook a turkey or a big roast in one and compare the internal capacity in litres. I doubt there will be room for a tray of roast potatoes, yorkshires or a pudding.

I have a combi and mostly use it warm plates while cooking in the real cooker.
