changing bedrooms around-decluttering and best way of reorganising

Hi everyone

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and about to embark on a rearranging mission in order to prepare for baby's arrival and sort this house out once and for all.

Over the next few weeks we are going to change bedrooms- me and OH are moving into the attic room; my 2 boys are moving into our old room and new baby will be moving into the boys old room- hope this makes sense.

Just wondered if there are any suggestions for how I can be super organised and make sure that I am also not over doing it as I have PGP and am really struggling with this pregnancy and looking after the kids (17 months and 4).

I plan to go through each bedroom and declutter first. The attic is halfway there and the other bedrooms wont be too bad. Then I thought I could put all the stuff into bags and boxes as if we were gonna move house- labelled etc so that I can direct my OH to put stuff in the correct rooms.

Any other suggestions? I am worried because although my OH will move furniture etc he will not help with anything else so I want to make it as easy as possible for myself. I have to rearrange the bedrooms before baby is here as I know that it will be harder to do once she is here and the boys are squashed in their current room and I want them to be comfortable and have their own space.

Any tips would be great. Thanks

Why won't he help with anything else? Does he not care about his home/DCs well being/ your health?

MargeryKemp- He is quite lazy around the house so I know that it will mostly be left up to me.

He wanted me to wait until Christmas to reorganise the rooms but I'm getting it sorted out now because I want everything organised and nice for everyone. He won't change- this is the way he is

I did this when I was pregnant with DS2 and went a bit overboard. In the end DS2 had a cot in our room till he was 1 so I neednt have bothered.

I'm not sure I would go to all the hassle in your shoes unless you think the new baby will go in its own room straight away?

Pannacotta- the baby is definetly going to go in my room until she's 1. It's more about the 2 boys. The bedroom is too small for them so they need to be moved around and the only way I can do that is by changing all the sleeping arrangements. It's a pain but definetly the best option for everyone

In that case I would get your OH on board, dont ask just tell him he needs to help you.
I think your idea of labelling bags/boxes is a good one and I would try and sort room roon or you'll get overwhelmed and tired.

How old are your boys? Can you get them involved, perhaps ask if there is something they woudl like for their new room?
Do you have storage sorted for when the rooms are swapped over? IKEA is good for this and has some excellent storage ideas on their website.

Hi Pannacotta

I think you are definetly right. I am going to tell him what needs doing and make sure that I am not doing everything. I'm being way too soft on him! Afterall he lives in this house and needs to take on responsibility for the house as well as me.

My eldest is 4 and the youngest is 17 months. My four yr old can help me with sorting out toys and I think he will enjoy choosing things for his new room. He enjoys helping out with the housework when the mood takes him to so Im sure he will do some dusting and hoovering for me.

Most of the storage is sorted but I will need to get some toy storage as the kids have loads of toys. Thank you for the idea of Ikea- I love there stuff.

Thanks for your replies
