spider repellant

We're trying to sell DH's flat at the moment but its inundated with spiders. Actually that's a massive exaggeration, I've seen 3 in the last couple of weeks. But I'm absolutely terrified...and as a potential buyer I know this would put me off. Can anyone recommend any repellants? I'd rather ward them off than kill them. I've heard conkers are good - is there any truth in this? Is there anything else I can use until we get into conker season again? Thanks loads

I don't think conkers work as I tried them but I was still finding spiders in my house.
I sprayed jayes fluid under the settees which got rid of them for ages but the smell was too strong and I ended up having to scrub it off again.

Spiders would definitely put me off buying a house but if I saw 1 on the day I viewed, I wouldn't assume the place was full of them.

Lakeland do a spider repellent spray. I used it last autumn and I don't know if it was just coinsidence or not but I didn't see a single spider from September till a couple of weeks ago.

It's available from here too. Might have to give that a go myself as I can't be living with spiders

Conkers work for us, but they need to be re-newed each year. We still had the odd spider, but loads fewer than before.

Conkers are toxic for dogs so we didn't use many. We just put a few out of the dogs way.

I have trained my dog to eat spiders though Grin

When I was little, my Granny told me that it was really important to wash out your empty milk bottles really thoroughly before putting them on the door step for the milkman to collect! She said that spiders looked at the milk bottles to decide which houses to live in. If they saw less than sparking milk bottles, they knew it would be a good house to live in!

I am sure this is where you are going wrong! Grin

It's not often you see spiders in winter. They are obviously all waking up/being born or whatever as I've see loads lately. It's perfectly normal and I don't think it would buyers off. I've seen 3 in my house today but I wouldn't consider it infested.

I've never found a repellant that works unfortunately. I just get DH to put them outside. I won't kill them cos I heard its unlucky and I'm stupidly superstitious.

That's really funny - our spider months are September and October - we thought they all run inside as the weather's getting colder.

Thanks kid for the info about conkers being toxic - I didn't know that. Need to make sure puppy keeps away, although most of the conkers are upstairs, and he's banned!!! (just wish he'd listen to my ban).
