What can I use to clean...

the loo and washing machine?!

We have moved into a new house and the loo is stained (err!) no amount of toilet duck or scrubbing has shifted it! I think it's limescale (or similar) and it's that that's stained rather than the actual loo. Scrubbing has helped but not solved the problem! Help!

Alsoe our washing machine. Around the rubber seal where water collects on a spin it's a bit mouldy (I think) what can I use to clean that? What do I put in a maintenance wash too?!

Thanks

You need Hydrochloric Acid to clean the Loo - this will shift ANYTHING & bring the loo up like new - you'll find it an old fashioned type hardware store - DO handle with great care though as per instructions on the bottle

For the washing machine I'd recommend mixing up vinegar & tea tree oil in a spay bottle & spray your machine with it & leave for several hours - these kill the mould - then do a maintenance wash with a bottle of vinegar & tea tree oil - that should sort it out

Holy smokes, hydrochloric acid? Bit lively, isn't it? If you're not careful it'll eat through your drains. And don't breathe the byproducts, whatever you do.

Handy (I thought) website:

Yes, hence the warning,

but it is brilliant & the only thing to bring a really badly stained loo back to new & no it doesn't eat through drains etc, just needs handling with care & following instructions as regards keeping lid down, wearing mask & vacating room etc

the acid will also take the chrome plating off taps and plugchains. This can often be seen in public and pub lavatories.

Save up for a water softener.

Ok, you've scared me off the acid. Terrifying! I'll try a very good limescale removed rather than a standard bleach toilet duck and I'll get some white vinegar and give that a whirl on the loo and washing machine!

I've done a washing machine maintenance wash a couple of times and just put it on a 95deg wash with no soap or anything in it. Should I be adding something the ? When you say add vinegar where do I put it and how much?!

Thanks

You can try scrubbing the limescale off the loo with a pumice stone if you can get to it easily.

The washing machine seal can be wiped with a bleachy cloth, then bung the cloth in the machine and do a 90 degree wash-with bio powder.

Speaking as someone who has burned a miniscule patch on her finger with acid at college- I would not consider using it.
