Cleaning gas hob

Hi, How do I clean the rings off a gas hob? They go in the dishwasher once a week, but are now black and gry and brown and all sortsa lovely colour! Have end of tenancy inspection at the weekend, so any advice appreciated.

you mean the iron pan supports?

the dishwasher will have eroded the enamel. You could try rubbing them with cooking oil and polishing it off to get the shine back, it would probably last during the inspection.

It is possible to buy new ones, they are sometimes surprisingly cheap, if it is a popular make and you can find anywhere that sells them.

It is also possible to buy a spray-on heat-resistant enamel, sold in car accessory shops, but you might find it difficult to get a smooth glossy finish.

See if there is a back-street domestic appliance spares shop in your town and enquire what they suggest.

here's an example I found, the tricky bit is finding them to fit your cooker. I suppose you could polish them up for the inspection, while seeing how much replacements are.

Do you mean the silvery-type rings that fit around the gas distributor? Or the distributor itself?

On my old cooker I'd soak them in very hot soapy water for half an hour and then scrub the hell out of them with wire wool. You can also buy chemicals that'll do the job, such as Oven Pride.

yes, if the part you mean is the light-alloy (like aluminium) ring that is part of the burner assembly, you can polish it up with wire wool or a brillo pad.

I thought you meant the enamelled iron supports.

Emm, i meant thr round rings, the round plates that fit atop, and the bars that go over the whole hob. They are very clean and they go in the dishwasher once week, but really, they are so stained.

Hoped soap in something magic (babywipes!) might shift it all but I see it will be down to good old fashioned elbow grease!!!!
