House has come up for sale that we could afford and would be big enough. In an area we like and seems like very good value for money.

It is however UGLY and both myself and Dh seem to have become house snobs.

Is this ridiculous?

Yes that is ugly - but at that price who cares. Get gardening - pots and trellis and front and plenty of room for planting at the back. Five-bedroom villa though? Who are they trying to kid.

mycatsaysach · 01/05/2012 19:04

ooooooooooooooo yes imagine it with lots of lovely climbers and trellis over the front.

YES!

when we were looking to buy there was a house for sale for months that I just ignored becuase it was so ugly.
was viewing one nearby one day and the EA says "there's anoither one round here you might like".. so off we go and it's ugly house.

anyway, inside was actually perfect for us. much more space than any of the others we'd looked at, tons of parking, space for a driveway...

so we went for it!
like a friend said to me, you'll be in the house, you won't have to look at it Grin

also, in our case this was never going to be our forever home. it was just a step onto the ladder.

Littleplasticpeople · 01/05/2012 19:19

Yes. I have an ugly house. It ticked other boxes at the time though. However, I want to move now as it makes me depressed what a minger it is. All the other houses look ok, then ours is slightly set back from the rest just drawing attention to its undesirable features.

AprilLilacs · 01/05/2012 19:22

Change the front! Maybe the owners of the other houses in the row will be inspired and do the same.

bibbitybobbitybunny · 01/05/2012 20:14

Oh Sad littleplasticpeople that you haven't come to love your house and embrace its minger-ness and undesirable features Sad.

Willowisp · 01/05/2012 20:35

Gawd ! It is ugly...however, new front door, a window box, one of those porch roof things, a coat of paint on the railings & will look heaps better.

Then you can start on the inside....

Jux · 01/05/2012 20:39

You'll be inside looking out and so mostly won't see it.

Your neighbors, on the other hand.....

SwedishEdith · 03/05/2012 00:11

Picture 5 is the study, apparently. I think it could be great if you like the area and take some of the tips from here to soften the East Berlin look about it. What I don't understand is why any architect would design a house where the front appears to have no windows? Confused

QuintessentialShadows · 03/05/2012 00:20

No denying it, it is ugly. But looks good inside. Some of the rooms are a bit dark, and nice warm lick of buttercup would do wonders. I agree about rendering and repainting white. The staircase could be a bit of a feature. Nice door. Nice big blue ceramic pots with some plants in. Hanging basket. Another window? Window boxes with flowers? It has got a lot of potential! Like an empty canvas...

Aerobreaking · 03/05/2012 00:21

I'd have it.

60k.

MushroomSoup · 03/05/2012 11:58

Are ya gonna have it, Lostintransit?!
