Girls duvet covers that are a bit funky, not princess-y and £

I'm thinking of getting this curtain fabric for dd's room.
here
Her room is currently in nursery mode but as she is my last I'd like to make her room her own iyswim. The walls are staying pale yellow and the furniture is dark/ antique pine.

Where can I find nice duvet covers that aren't too girly, or too £££?

All suggestions v welcome! :)

La Redoute has some nice ones, not massively expensive as duvets etc go

MrsLettuce · 27/04/2012 19:39

Ikea?

RamblingRosa · 27/04/2012 19:44

Ikea, Vertbaudet, John Lewis?

LillianGish · 27/04/2012 19:53

I like this

Whenisitmysleepytime · 27/04/2012 20:10

I was in ikea yesterday and didn't see anything quite right.

Lilian- that's nice but too cath kidston-y for my taste.

Will have a look at la redoute and vertbaudet.

Thanks! :)

Wha about this? www.dunelm-mill.com/shop/nature-watch-bedlinen-143235

or this www.dunelm-mill.com/shop/annabelle-bedlinen-143155

I love the fabric you are thinking of for curtains. Could you buy a little extra and trim the top or bottom edge of a plain lilac/lavender/pink duvet cover.

dunelm has inexpensive plain dye bedding here:

basildonbond · 27/04/2012 21:50

Dd has this which is gorgeous and not at all princessy

Whenisitmysleepytime · 28/04/2012 07:24

Basil- that's lovely but £70! Shock that's more than I've spent on all our double bed linen! Blush

Arti- those are good! Really like the second and third ones. Not sure about using the curtain fabric on bedding - I don't think it'd survive many trips round the washing machine. Although you have made me wonder about embellishing some plain ones....
Will add it to my list of things to do! :)

Primark had some surprisingly nice looking bed linen when I was browsing.

revolutionconfirmed · 28/04/2012 12:28

I bought a nature themed duet cover for my daughter from Dunelm for £20. It's pink, turquoise and white with embroidered squirrels, trees etc. I can't link on my phone though.

SleepyFergus · 28/04/2012 14:03

Not a duvet cover but I have seen the perfect light for you!! I just bought it for my DDs room. She's 2.5 and just moved into her big girls to make room for the nearly due baby.....

www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=110&storeId=10151&partNumber=660874

It also comes as just a shade. Type 'bird' into HB search engine. Quicker than scrolling through all the lights etc.

mejon · 28/04/2012 14:38

What about a nice green or lilac gingham set? Would be lovely with that fabric you've chosen. loads here and I've seen some somewhere else but can't remember where!

SparkyToo · 28/04/2012 18:45

I too think something simple along the lines of a gingham duvet set so that the design doesn't compete with the fab curtains! How about hot pink, turquoise or the lilac, as suggested by mejon?

Alternatively, what about blue or pink polka dots, pink stripes or blue stripes?

LOVE THE CURTAIN fabric, it's a really fun the retro style print reminds me of the curtains in my bedroom as a child (back to the 70s!!). So how about a retro floral duvet cover? There's a blue flower option, but I think the pink flower duvet is the best. Would look great with a coordinating pink stripe pillowcase! Not too girley?

This was the one I was talking about.

educatingarti · 28/04/2012 20:44

I've used cotton curtain fabric on /as duvets before.
It does fade eventually but it worked fine. I'd pre-wash it first though to deal with any possible shrinkage before sewing onto cover.

educatingarti · 28/04/2012 20:48

However you could also easily embellish a plain one with a couple of bands of contrasting ric-rac ( and maybe a single appliqued bird in style of curtains if you are feeling really crafty )!

Primrose123 · 28/04/2012 20:51

This is pretty but not cheap,
www.gltc.co.uk/fcp/product/-/bedroom_furniture_bedding/Little-Bird-Duvet-Cover-Set/10000002888

I love your curtain material, could you buy extra and maybe cut out some birds and stitch them onto a plain duvet cover?

mejon · 28/04/2012 21:09

Ooo that apple one is gorgeous corny - I may have to get one myself.

cornsyilk · 28/04/2012 21:11

I love aspace stuff Smile

Whenisitmysleepytime · 29/04/2012 08:08

Those are all lovely and you all have wonderful taste BUT I'm thinking £20 or less per set! :)

SoupDragon · 29/04/2012 08:17

Like I said, Primark!
