I need suggestions of things I can do in an hour to make my house feel tidy

I need your help ladies and gents.

I am 11 weeks pregnant, I have a bad UTI and savage sickness.
I have been in bed for nearly 3 weeks.
I have 2 boisterous children (7&5)

My house looks a state, the mess is making me unable to relax. I am feeling up to doing an hours housework before re collapsing in bed later, please don't say just to leave it, I'm not planning a full overhaul, just an hours clearing/decluttering while I feel able.

So, what can I do in that hour that will make it feel a lot clearer?
I need your top tips.
The kids room is fine, it's the hall, kitchen, lounge and my bedroom that is the problem. Clutter and piles of paperwork in the lounge.
Dishes and laundry in the kitchen.
Clothes, rubbish, clutter in the bedroom.
TIA :)

Sort the kitchen

Wash up or stack dishwasher

Clean worktops

Empty bin

Put a wash on.

Then make a cup of tea.

Put ALL the paperwork together in a big pile to sort through later when you are watching TV.

Ignore bedroom now but when you go up to bed take a sack with you and put all the rubbish in it. Sort clothes tomorrow.

Have inspired myself to do the dishwasher now!

HTH

Thanks Collision, as soon as the kids are fed and in bed I'll get to it, the house is usually spotless, I have been useless whilst ill. Oh how I miss my dishwasher!

Lower your standards. Or close your eyes.

Pay your children to help, ie collect rubbish, pick clothes up etc.

Put away all clutter - kids can help with this
wizz over bathrooms and kitchen with flash wipes
Hoover-kids can do this
Do laundry and give up ironing - forever Grin

TitsalinaBumSquash · 27/04/2012 17:50

Ironing?! What is this iron you speak of?? Grin

I don't do ironing, and tbh my standards aren't high at all, I find it hard to relax when I know there is stuff to be done Grin

Kids have done their room, collected dishes from around the house and put all the shoes away, now their eating quietly which is a win for me.

And we have a Roomba named Brian that will be let loose when the floor is clear of junk! Smile

Crack all the windows open for a blow through - it will smell much fresher.

Do no actual cleaning per se.
Initially put washload on.
Start with the biggest items or grouping (ie dirty laundry on floors) to tidy up.

Continue to tidy, with washing up and bins included in tidying, till the hours up.

I agree with Collision - all paperwork in a box for later.

When you've done an hour, every so often you may feel like just wiping the kitchen surfaces,or watering the plants. With the detritus cleared, they'll be simple and do-able little tasks.
