What time do you all go to bed at night? Flylady always says "go to bed at a decent hour" but what counts as a decent hour? I don't think I get enough sleep, sometimes when I have a very early night I feel much better for it, but other times it's hard to switch off and go to sleep in the evening.

between 9-11

Dont do any housework after 6.30 when the dishwasher is loaded and on.

Does that help?
What do you consider an early night?

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 25/04/2012 09:08

Between 11.30 and 1.30.

Waaay too late, but its my only chance for Mum time and to watch grown up TV/go on the computer.

I know I have to go to bed earlier though as its unsustainable long term.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 25/04/2012 09:09

(oh and I'm up between 6.30 and 7.30)

halcyondays · 25/04/2012 09:40

Well a few nights I went to bed about 9.00 as I was very tired but usually I wouldn't be tired then, so I would class anything before 10.00 as an early night. If I went at 9.00 every night it would mean I got no time to relax and watch TV as it's rare that both dds would be asleep much before then. So like you, Skinny I'm torn between getting more sleep and getting a bit of time to myself to relax and have fun and to spend time with dh. Usually I go around 11.30 -12.00

usually between 10.30-11.30 depending on what I am doing. I am up between 6-7am every day and I am a grumpy girl if I dont get enough sleep.

Moomoomie · 25/04/2012 09:47

Between 10:30 and 11. Anything later feels like a late night.
Am up about 6. And have broken nights always.
Am permanately tired!
I try not to do any housework after about 8 in the evening,

Seona1973 · 25/04/2012 10:39

we go up to bed just after 10pm but I read until about 10.30/10.45pm. DH tries to go straight to sleep as he gets up around 6am (I get up about 7am)

Iwantcandy · 25/04/2012 10:50

At the moment around 8 or 9. Ds wakes up at 4 or 5 am although this morning it was 3.15. Joy!!

jamaisjedors · 25/04/2012 11:26

On work days, about 10pm, or even sometimes at 8.30/9 with the DS (but I watch DVDs in bed or read). Lights out Smile before 10.30 usually.

CeliaFate · 25/04/2012 12:04

I aim to be in bed by 10.30. I'm up at 6.45 so by 10pm I get ready for bed and read to send me off.

GrossePopel · 25/04/2012 12:11

Between 10-11pm depending on how tired I am. Smile DH refuses to ever go to bed before 11pm. And he always goes closer to midnight on a weekend.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 25/04/2012 21:53

halcyon I find I just get by at present because DH and I have a lie in each at the weekend - could you do this maybe?
Then every so often I'll get a kip on the settee or give in and go to bed a bit earlier. But really I know I need more sleep!

I find I can switch off a lot easier if I read before bed or watch TV.If I've been on Mumsnet,my brain is usually whirling for a while though.
I don't do 'housework' after about 9-9.30.I don't do the whole hot milk malarkey, but I do find that any caffeine after about 6-7 pm really causes problems with getting to sleep.
Deal with anything that requires thinking about before you sit down, not just before bed, because I find it then just fills your head.

The aim is to stay up as late as possible and fall asleep as soon as head connects with pillow, thereby getting as much chill time as possible without wasting time just laying in bed and not sleeping!

mirpuppet · 28/04/2012 19:33

11pm-midnight. It was much better when I went to be between 10-11pm.

TheCinnamonGiraffe · 29/04/2012 10:01

Between 9.30 and midnight. I used to get by because I'd have a lie in on a Saturday. DP is now 'ex-p' so now I have 1 really early night a week instead (on a day that I have thoroughly worn the DC's out and know that none of them have had a sneaky nap during the day).

Either way I am up at 6 or 6.30.

Acumenoop · 29/04/2012 10:42

We do no paperwork or caffeine after 5.30, no backlit screens after 7.30. Low-lights from 8.30. No lights at 9.30 (9 hours blackout). We have an iPod in the bed with a quiet, undemanding audiobook playing that either of us can hook into if we can't sleep/relax. We always go to bed together unless I am working on Eastern Standard Time (5 hours behind), in which case I am 3 hours timeshifted from DP, but still up at 6.30, so that's only 6 hours blackout.

I have to get up every two-three hours minimum through the night so I have to be pretty military about bedtime. I might have to get up every 20 minutes through the night and can't nap in the day so I am an absolute loon about maximising sleep.

We are considering going to the Little Sleep 5/1/3 system, where you get up at 2-3am and spend an hour stretching/meditating/doing physiotherapy etc before going back to bed for a "lie-in" sort of sleep. It was a common pre-industrial sleep pattern. Just need to get the right mattress to do this (NHS battle, v dull).

I get up at 6.30 and do my housework as I have breakfast before I start work at 7am (home office).

reastie · 30/04/2012 09:06

Usually the aim is to get to sleep (or heading that way) by 10. Sometimes earlier sometimes later. I always thought I was very quite early compared to the general population though.
