Which new hoover do I need?

My Dyson Animal Cylinder has a broken part, one that will cost over £50 to replace. I have been wanting a new hoover so we are considering just replacing the whole hoover.

I have anything upto four dogs at any one time, plus a cat and two small children. Mainly hard floors with one carpetted room and a carpetted stairway.

Limited space means we normally go for cylinders but we could do upright if they were really worth finding the space for.

I can't be doing with bagged ones. I'm lazy and forgetful so we'd never have any bags and thus the hoover would never be used.

we'd never have any bags

that's a pity.

Are you sure about the bags? Because if you bought a job lot you'd be ok. I have a Henry and it's still going strong after 20 years. I've tried others because I wanted to have a separate one upstairs but nothing comes close. Also, I miles prefer bags because I find emptying the cylinders messy and (in my case) asthma-inducing.

I know this doesn't answer your question.

Are henrys good on hard floors? How often do the bags need changing?

the best vacs are Mieles, and use bags

personally I don't find the appeal in watching dust, pluff, bogies and dead spiders spinning round in a plastic canister, and blowing around when tipped in the bin, so I'd be willing to make the effort of buying a set of bags from time to time, or ordering over the interweb. It's no more difficult than buying loo rolls.

Pancakeflipper · 22/04/2012 23:04

Miele or Sebo. Both bags and way better than a Dyson ( which were originally good but now built cheaply).

D0oinMeCleanin · 22/04/2012 23:07

We always run out of loo roll too, but the shop up the road sells that, saying that we have a white goods shop at the end of the road too. Ill have to ask if they do Hoover bags.

Miele without doubt.

Love my sebo it's great for sucking up pet hair.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 23/04/2012 07:22

I have got a Miele - Iove it . It's a Which? Best buy .

5madthings · 23/04/2012 07:31

we used to have a sebo that was great, it eventually died tho and now we have a miele which is great! love it as much as you can love a hoover...

DonInKillerHeels · 23/04/2012 07:32

Miele Cat and Dog. No question - it's the best hoover for you. But it does need bags. Just buy a truckload at the beginning and it should see you right for a long time.

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 23/04/2012 07:35

I have a Miele and a Dyson , the Dyson is only used in the shed and occasionally to empty the Mieles bag Grin. The Miele is hugely superior to the Dyson.

hobnob · 23/04/2012 14:28

The Henry has a hard floor adjustment which works very well. As for how often the bags need changing, that all depends on how often you hoover (or henry, as the case may be). In other words, not often enough in my house. . .

valiumredhead · 24/04/2012 09:12

Miele every time! I just bulk buy the bags.

tostaky · 25/04/2012 13:17
