Yankee Candles

Does anyone use these? I am about a third of the way through one at the moment (cinnamon) and whilst its very nice, i want to start burning something more spring like. Would i be able to close the jar and will the fragrance keep until Autumn time or would i be better off using the whole jar once started?
Also where is the cheapest place to buy the candles? I see that they have a lot on QVC, but not sure how these work out value wise in comparison to other places?

TIA

I clicked on this to see if I could glean any ideas for a springlike/fresh smelling candle,so I shall watch with interest.
I have only seen them so far at a silly price in a Garden Centre.

mummakaz · 19/04/2012 20:37

yes they will keep their scent for years if stored right. Lid on and kept in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight :)

Not sure if you have heard of yankee doodle, they have sales every now and then

Clean cotton, soft blanket and fluffy towels are nice SVL, best buy them in a tart/sampler first to see it you like it before getting a jar

axure · 19/04/2012 20:40

I've had some good ones from tk maxx but it can be a bit hit and miss sometimes a great choice other times hardly any stock.

ggirl · 19/04/2012 20:51

clean cotton is lovely, i am using atm
i also have bought some from tkmaxx but have never seen yankee candles in there

ggirl · 19/04/2012 20:52

they are a ridiculous price but I indulge myself cos usually cheap ones don't smellof anyhting

oreocrumbs · 19/04/2012 21:01

They keep well, I've just swapped my cinnamon and sugar for fresh cut roses. The roses has been on the go for about 3 years (its not my favourite but nice enough).

We live next to an outlet shopping centre and there is an outlet hallmark shop there, and they are cheap! The big jars that are normally £20 odd are £10, and the seasonal stuff gets reduced right down, I bought 12 small christmas candles for £6!

So keep an eye out in the out let shops Smile

rubyslippers · 19/04/2012 21:02

Clintons usually have a candle of the month offer

The lavender one is lovely (mixed with something else) as is clean cotton

Fresh cut roses is also nice

ninjanurse · 19/04/2012 21:08

oooh I love yankee candles! I am burning Pink sands at the moment, one of my faves! Lemon Lavender is a nice fresh one or bahama breeze or early sunrise. I would thoroughly recommend buying a burner, and stocking up on a variety of wax tarts so you can try different scents quite cheaply.

By the way, your candle should 'keep' until autumn. Cinammony smells are def for colder weather.

mum47 · 19/04/2012 21:11

I love Yankee Candles too - have tried other ones but think they have the nicest smells. My favourite ones are all the christmasy smelling ones but other ones I like are Fresh Cut Roses, and my absolute favourite is Midnight Jasmine. You sometimes get offers on Brand Alley website or even try ebay.

rubyslippers · 19/04/2012 21:11

Ah that's it - lemon lavender!

DontForgetTheLightAlesLawrence · 19/04/2012 21:13

I love them. Also have a lemon lavender one going now.

If you have a Home Store and More near you, they often sell 'em half price.

Whatevertheweather · 19/04/2012 21:13

Oooh I love Yankee Candles. Agree Clean Cotton is lovely. I've got a lovely Lemon one burning atm and DD picked a cherry blossom one but the scent is quite strong on that. We have a little independent candley type shop (technical) don't think it's cheap though about £15 for a medium size one with the silver lid.

I've always wanted to try Jo Malone or Diptyque (sp?) but they are jaw droppingly expensive for something you burn. But has anyone tried them?

anniewoo · 19/04/2012 21:23

Yankee lavender vanilla is lovely as is pink lady slipper. I don't like cinnamon, christmassy scents. I agree too that the tarts are a good, cheap introduction to the scents. Don't think Yankee are organic probably a lot of chemicals. Max Benjamin Mimosa ( in orange box) is beautiful and organic.

Littlemissimpatient · 19/04/2012 21:24

Swear by Jo Malone candles, last ages!

templenewsam · 19/04/2012 21:24

Has anyone seen the ones they sell in asda living? They say simply home on the label. Wanted to know if they are genuine ones before I buy as they are fairly cheap!

mum47 · 19/04/2012 21:26

I have also seen them in B & Q, temple, in fact I bought one, but like you felt I wasn't convinced they were the real thing.

CRbear · 19/04/2012 21:53

I was given the lime, basil and mandarin candle by Joe Malone as a gift and it is gorgeous. Beautiful fresh scent, absolutely lovely- not sure if I could bring myself to pay for it myself though!

blondieminx · 19/04/2012 21:56

I've got the Baby Powder one on the go atm, we have a hallmark outlet shop nearby too and I got this jar and also the Island Spa one which is sort of lemon sherberty, both for £8 each. They do hold their scent well if stored properly. Smile

Whatevertheweather · 19/04/2012 22:02

£50 for the Jo Malone candles Shock

mummakaz · 19/04/2012 22:15

Yes the 'simply home' yankees are the real deal :) I love the carribean kiss one, it's gorgeous. I really hate lavender and lemon. The foulest smelling yankee has got to be the red home sweet home or cafe au lait.

crazyaccountant · 19/04/2012 22:17

I buy them from QVC when they have their TSV's and find they are very competitive for Yankees! Also we have a shop called boundary mill which also stocks a huge range at prices much less than the high street!

templenewsam · 19/04/2012 22:22

Ah brilliant! I shall go and purchase loads of them! one at the weekend.

ToxicToria · 19/04/2012 22:29

I love Yankee candles I always have the baby powder ones in my bathrooms and fruity ones elsewhere the only thing I don't like is they always seem to discontinue my favourite one and I need to find a new one to like and I am a creature of habit so it's slightly annoying so I usually keep a huge stock of my current favourites just incase

shelley72 · 20/04/2012 14:59

thank you all - seems as though there are a few addicts out there!

i have cut the wick, sealed back up the candle and put it in the cupboard now until winter. have a strawberry buttercream one to try next (smells very sweet) so i will see how that goes. we have a garden centre nearby that does a fragrance of hte month so i may pop by there to see whats on offer this month - can only afford these things when on sale!
