Teak garden table

I have a teak garden table- hate the brown wood look as our climate is fairlydamp and dull. Would it be possible to paint it cream or french grey? If so do i sand it down? Any garden paint recommendations?

teak is an oily wood, the oil makes it durable outdoors, and also means that paint will not stick well.

If you don't like the wood look, and you want to leave it outside in the sun and rain, plastic furniture is a durable alternative.

Thank you Pigletjohn.Wouldn't like plastic and you don't recommend paint.

I recommend you learn to love oiled wood.

You might be able to use Cuprinol. Have a look at their website and ask them if their Garden Shades product is suitable. I use it on my garden bench but it is soft wood not teak - am impressed with the finish. Cuprinol

Just leave it untreated, it will go a silvery grey of it's own accord.

We've got a teak table, did nothing to it and it silvered beautifully within a year. Don't touch it was the advice we were given - once you treat it with anything, you'll have to keep doing it. Ours is about 6 years old and looks great, dh jet washes it once a year and that's it!

Celiafate we've had them 10 years approx- i initially left them to silver as you say ( i thought it was just grey ) But i felt it looked so dull and depressing particularly on dull grey days!!!
