Is there such a thing as a non-cr@p mop?

Because I have tried a few, and they are all crap. They are just devices for pushing water about on the floor, moving the dirt about a bit but essentially leaving it where it is and leaving you with a sopping wet floor that you can't walk on as the icing on a particularly rubbish cake.

I'm sure that Lakeland is full of Wonder Mops That Change Your Life (allegedly) but I'm not going to fork out what will probably be £70 for another mop, if it's going to turn out cr@p like the rest.

Any suggestions?

I use microfibre flat mop heads, first one wet but not soaking and then a 2nd one to dry with - bung in washing machine to clean.

Was from Lakeland about 10 years ago btw

I have tried all the mops. Currently on a 'Vileda SuperMocio'

Nothing works as well as a cloth and hands and knees. But that's too much like hard work!

bronze · 15/04/2012 21:25

I use microfibre too

SardineQueen · 15/04/2012 21:30

I have a Vileda SuperMocio too

It seems OK

But my standards are low Grin

What about a robot mop thing? I want one of those.

r3dh3d · 15/04/2012 21:37

Ooh, I could do with a robot mop thing. Especially if it also serves Gin and Tonics... Grin

I too have same mop as RandomMess and I use "Spray and Mop" floor cleaner by Dettol.

Spray on floor, wipe with mop, pop detachable mop head into washing machine. Had it about 10 years too, still going strong.

If you have dropped stuff on the kitchen floor and haven't wiped it up then it can be that the mop won't remove all of it but if you are cleaning the hallway etc then dirty footprints come off no problem.

Lakeland maybe pricey on some items but they do last.

I use a bit of mr muscle on any sticky/old stains or spillages and just the damp cloth on the rest.

Have you got a proper mop bucket to squeeze it dry when taking off?

I find the disposable Vileda type (or much cheaper own-brands) work well.

If you can be bothered, you can put them in the wafing machine.

r3dh3d · 16/04/2012 15:13

I have a "proper" mop bucket, PJ. It is the same brand as the mop and they were sold together so you think they would work with each other. They do not, at all. You can only fit about 50% of the mop into the squeezy bit at a time and the rest just flops about wetly. It's a rubbish bit of design and makes me quite cross each time I use it! Blush

I want one.

r3dh3d · 16/04/2012 15:19

It looks very fine. Though I can't see the Gin dispenser...

Ah but think of all the time it frees up for fetching one's own G&T (which also makes up for the exercise you are missing by not mopping the floor yourself)

liveinazoo · 16/04/2012 15:30

if a good mop exists i havent found itSad
not eco friendly but quick-dettol floor wipes

smacks of effort i know but then reward self with Wine?

bessie26 · 18/04/2012 22:49

I have a magic mop - it's got what looks like a non-stick pan scrubber at the end of it.

It's not bad, but is definately lacking a G&T dispenser.
