New hazard labels for household chemicals

My kids think I am a chemical geek because I keep banging on about this, but it's my job, and I think it's important, so here goes:

Warning labels on many household products such as dishwasher tablets, bleach and lime scale removers in the kitchen; DIY products such as paints, varnishes and adhesives; and garden chemicals will be changing over the next few years as part of a UN sponsored intitiative to harmonise labels globally.

These labels are really important as they alert consumers to the hazards associated with products so that they can take appropriate care when using them.

The design of the new symbols comprises a diamond with red borders containing a black pictogram. Some of the new symbols are similar to the previous versions and are easily recognised, but several are new. Make sure that you recognise and understand these new labels by checking out this free and easy to use website - www.understandthelabel.org.uk. The website is also smartphone friendly, so why not bookmark it from your device and you can check labels instore before you buy.
