I'm now on week 2 of 2 weeks annual leave. My plan was to spring clean my pig sty of a house and get organised but i've done nothing more than chuck some rubbish away. I'm a fat lazy arse and I need some motivation!!!

Here are my list of excuses:

  • I'm knackered
  • I have 3x DC 6, 4 & 2
  • Both DH & I work full time
  • I have a 3000 word assignment due in
  • My mum is really poorly in hospital
  • I really can't be arsed
  • I've got a banging headache that won't go away

Thing is, I really need to get sorted for the sake of my sanity! I just need a boot up my arse...help! [bublush]

I'm not surprised you're overwhelmed by RL - just try the baby steps on the FLylady website and you'll feel a bit better. I"ve just started it last week and it's revolutionised my house after just a few days! In case you don't know FLY= Finally Loving Yourself -which I think is sweet.

Can I offer you an easter egg and sympathy instead? I have much less excuses than you and I am struggling.

I have been a long term slattern, I have tried fly-lady with mixed results and tbh, I have just run out of steam with the whole thing.

My house is a mess, mostly from too much stuff. I sort out loads, then it sits bagged up in the dining room for months before I get a chance to get rid of it.

What I find helps is to have someone who is either with you/on the phone telling you to do x, y or z task, and giving you the support and encouragement necessary to get that job done, then another etc. It might seem a bit how you would treat a child, but procrastination is a bit of a childish trait imo :o

Wisteria I definately feel overwhelmed and Deadalus I am a procratimator especially in the early hours of the morning! I make lists of everything i'm going to do but it never gets done!

You just need to do one thing at a time and keep on top of it.

Pick something up every time you leave a room and put it where its meant to be, things like that.

Make that list, but make it realistic. And do it.

Be lethal and throw things out that have no use/place/not really wanted etc.

Small things make a difference.

Start tomorrow!

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 09/04/2012 20:04

Oh yes, the lists! I spend ages making lists but then have run out of enthusiasm by the time I have finished the list :o

One thing that is helpful is to set a timer for 5/10/15m and get stuck in to a task - unloading the dishy/putting clothes away/cleaning the bathroom etc.

SparkyMcSparrow · 09/04/2012 20:04

Oh and routine. Once you get on top of it, have a routine then keeping it sorted is a piece of piss!

I am btw, a slattern, but I do all this and I can get away with it. Grin

I do the minimum I have to and I have a clean, tidy house at the end of the day so I can relax!
