Can anyone recommend an air filter/ioniser?

Asthmatic.

When the sun slants in through the windows strongly in the day it is clear to see the amount of dust floating in the air in my house. No matter how much I vaccuum or dust or open the windows it is there, so I'm thinking in investing in an air filter to cut down on the airbourne dusty bits - partly to cut down on the dusting, but mostly to feel psychologically that I'm doing something to reduce the irritants in the air I breathe.

Does anyone have a good one they would recommend?

We use these Lloyds Pharmacy ones, the same thing is also sold under other brand names, some of them are branded Flixonase Allergy.

This one has a fan and a filter for large dust particles, but the smaller particles fall out of the air and make a dusty ring around the device. You sponge these up damp, which prevents stirring them into the air. After a while the amount of dirt reduces. You can clean the filter. The fan makes a faint noise but they are OK to use in a bedroom, as not noisy.

Had mine about 40 years, just basic type and nearby staining is only problem, but wonder if you've considered replacing carpets and curtains (and pets) in the house?
