Cleaner not really cleaning

As it says really. She's very sweet and lovely. I have given her a list but she isn't very thorough... Crumbs still on the floor in the kitchen, dust on the skirting boards, hairs in the bath and hand soap still on the sink surfaces...

How do I handle it? She seems quite defensive...I employ her through an agency.

I'm paying her £8 an hour and £2.95 an hour to the agency, she comes for 2 hours a week.

Speak to the agency and ask them to send someone else?

BulletProof · 03/04/2012 19:31

I know that's what I should do but I feel really bad, even wondering if she has poor eyesight!

She'll be really hurt probably, but I have to dont I...

At the end of her session (or 5 mins left) go around with her and point things out. Ask her to do it next time. You can be nice about it.

If she doesn't do it next time, go back to the Agency and ask for someone else.

How big is your place? Ours comes for 3 hours a week (3 bed flat).

Lovemygirls · 03/04/2012 19:32

I wouldn't put up with that at all, I'd ring the agency and request someone else tbh. Bottom line is can you afford to give out money for a job you end up doing yourself, if the answer is no then get rid.

BulletProof · 03/04/2012 19:33

She only has to do one bathroom, one cloakroom, toddler bedroom, landing, stairs, hallway and kitchen floor and dusting. I do lounge and our bedroom.

I can't see that I shoul have to point to point out that she hasn't cleaned either of the wash basins...

Sounds easily doable!

We've just got a new cleaner and I've gone through things with her at the end of a visit. I make sure I'm at home the first few times so I can spy see how she gets on and I have no shame in pointing things out.

I'm a believer in giving someone a chance and also she needs to learn how to do the job properly... So tell her and ring the agency anyway.

Iggly · 03/04/2012 19:37

Yes you should as you're calling her on it. She sounds shite! The more I think about it, the more I'm wondering what is she doing exactly?!

rubyslippers · 03/04/2012 19:37

No you shouldn't have to point it out

Is this her first cleaning job?

BulletProof · 03/04/2012 19:38

She's the same age as my mum, I feel lazy enough having a cleaner... Not sure i can bring myself to criticise her work, don't think she'll take it well. They way I see, either she's taking the mick or she has no idea about cleaning or her eyesight is poor...

Ok so what is the point in her coming to your home? Why not just give her the money and tell her to go and you will do a better job - that way she get the money and you get a job done well.

Sounds a bit silly doesn't it - but if she isn't actually cleaning then why not give her the money and send her away - that surely wouldn't hurt her feelings?

or would it?

You employ this cleaner through an agency - tell the agency to have a word as the cleaning isn't up to scratch and you are not happy.

BulletProof · 03/04/2012 19:46

She dusts some window shelves, hoovers and steams the middle of the floors, seems to forget about edges and corners. Attempts to clean the shower glass. Puts bleach down the loo but doesn't wipe down the outside of it. Bath looks the same. Wipes down light switches. It's just very half hearted. I thought a cleaner would be better at cleaning than me!

Not her first or only job... I know I'm being ridiculous and soft... Just wondered what others experiences are and if I'm asking too much.

NarkedPuffin · 03/04/2012 19:51

Get over it!

You're paying someone to do a job and they're not doing it! Call the agency and get someone else.

BulletProof · 03/04/2012 19:54

Ok, I'll call the agency. Can't help feeling for the lady, she really shouldn't be a cleaner and I feel like an evil witch.

OP posts:
ivykaty44 · 03/04/2012 19:56

well she doesn't feel for you that is for sure...

NarkedPuffin · 03/04/2012 19:59

You've nothing to feel guilty about. She's taking your money without doing the work.

BulletProof · 03/04/2012 20:03

Let's hope the next one is better ;)

Beauty of an agency you don't need to see her again.
