i've never cleaned the head of my hoover, until now. i've scraped all the thick gunk off but the bristles are really yucky. how can i get them cleaned? i'm thinking soaking them in something, but what?

any ideas?

What do you mean by the head? Is it an upright or cylinder? Is it a revolving brush?

IAmBooyhoo · 04/04/2012 22:45

it's a henry with a normal (what i call head, what's the right name for it?) attatchment that you can press the lever down and it makes the bristles come down for hoovering hard floors. it's gathered all sorts of gunk. ive scraped all i can off but the bristles are all clogged together.

No idea but you win thread title of the night

Bohica · 04/04/2012 22:53

I also salute your thread title. Do you not sweep your hard flooring before hoovering?

I would turn it upside down and get a smal screwdriver under the gunk to prize it out.

I have never cleaned my hoover head, ever.

cybbo · 04/04/2012 22:54

I've pulled out all the milllions of long hairs that get trapped around the spinning brushes. That was tres satisfying

And yy to cleaning your hard floor before hoovering!

IAmBooyhoo · 04/04/2012 22:57

no i just get the big guns out Grin

i honestly didn't realise i was supposed to sweep it first Blush will be doing that in future now.

i have also done the hair/thread removal from the revolving brush. i agree, veryy satisfying.

i sm thread title funny? have i said a word that means something else than what it means to me? Confused

No, no double meaning. Just made me laugh

i'm weird like that

IAmBooyhoo · 04/04/2012 23:00

i think i'm going to have to soak it to soften the gunk first. it is quite hard and the bristles are so close together it would take a very small screwdriver to get between each one.

would vinegar work? or vinegar and bicarb with soap?

MummyPocPoc · 04/04/2012 23:01

I'd use a solution of washing powder or liquid to soak it in.

IAmBooyhoo · 04/04/2012 23:24

thanks 'mummypocpoc'. i'll do that overnight tonight and see how it fares in the morning.

you can do it in the sink, use a stiff nail-brush or similar to comb the grime up the bristles and away from the root. Usually WUL is all you need.

don't use very hot water or the bristles may frizz and curl.

IAmBooyhoo · 05/04/2012 09:51

thanks PL i actually forgot to soak it last night but it looks liek that's a good thing as i would have used very hot water.
