I am sorry but I have a man in to do it. Grin

I was really impressed. He took the door off and the rails out and took them off to his van outside. It looked like new when he had finished, I would never be able to achieve that.

Some people recommend Oven Pride but I haven't tried it.

liveinazoo · 31/03/2012 16:47

2 choices

that oven cleaner you stuff shelves in a bag with solution and leave few hour and rinse

or old fashioned clean/scrub

vim and brillo if scanky

bicarb and lemon juice paste rub onto glass door .leave few mins then rub and wipe/rinse

other alternative is find a willing victim individual to do it for you!

once clean wipe out once a month-takes 20mins maxWink

GoblersKnob · 31/03/2012 16:48

I have a third choice, don'tWink

I am 36 I have never cleaned an oven, I don't see the need.

Sparklingbrook · 31/03/2012 16:54

Do you use the oven though Goblers? Grin

We know ours is due because you can't see through the glass and when you switch the grill on it sets the smoke alarm off.

GoblersKnob · 31/03/2012 16:58

Yup, I cook loads most things from scratch and do alot of baking. It is ummm, a bit mucky, but I still don't see the need.

Tbf I have never had a new oven, maybe that would make me care.

tantrumsandballoons · 31/03/2012 17:00

I have a magic man to do mine as well.
These are my top tips.

Wait til oven starts smoking
Ring oven man
Give him £30 and run out of the door to work before he sees how filthy it is
Come home to lovely clean oven WinkWink

Sparklingbrook · 31/03/2012 17:00

I only found out recently you have to clean the extractor fan filters over the hob. Blush They got cleaned for the first time in 10 years.

mummyofteens · 31/03/2012 17:03

tantrums I like your style :o

I call the man too.
Life is too short to clean a smelly greasy oven.
I never realised my oven had a light.Sad

DressDownFriday · 31/03/2012 17:15

I only clean the glass door Blush

liveinazoo · 31/03/2012 17:46

until i joined flylady thread i was an oven slattern

i am by no means at pristine standard

i figure less half hour once month i can live with and keeps smoke downWink

tootiredtothink · 31/03/2012 20:05

How do you find an oven man for £30??? They seem to be around £60 here (Birmingham) and I'm far too tight to pay that

wasabipeanut · 31/03/2012 20:06

Once you get past a certain point you have to get someone in as it would take several goes and complete dismantling of doors & shelves. However, if you clean it reasonably regularly the Lakeland cleaner is fab. Paint it on, leave a few hours and wipe. It shifts the vast majority of guck.

I've also had good results by taking the glass out of the door and soaking in a hot, strong soda crystals solution.

fluffiphlox · 31/03/2012 20:56

Get a man in - worth every penny

Sparklingbrook · 31/03/2012 21:08

Yes fluff, and get him to clean the oven while he's there. Wink

fluffiphlox · 31/03/2012 21:10

Wa-hay! Good idea!

Mrsrobertduvall · 01/04/2012 18:34

Mine charges £80 but that includes 2 ovens, micowave, hob and extractors.
Worth every penny.
I have it done 4 times a year.

woollylamb · 01/04/2012 18:42

usually get prof oven cleaner in, but last time used oven pride on recommendation of MN - and guess what - worked brilliantly and waaaayyy cheaper, if a bit messy. Definitely oven pride fan here.
And now cos its first day of the month I'm going to run my washing machine on 2 hour hottest wash, empty, cos MN says I should! Yippee for MN - wish it had been around 20 years ago!

PastGrace · 01/04/2012 18:51

A tip I read about on here to clean the glass - soak a teatowel/dishcloth in a solution made up of dissolving a dishwasher tablet in v hot water (I boiled the kettle and left it for a few mins). Lay the wet cloth across the glass and leave it for 30-40 mins and the gunk just wipes off.

I dissolved the dishwasher tablet in my stainless steel sink, so a bonus was an incredibly shiny sink.

ratherordinary · 01/04/2012 19:17

Would people be kind enough to link to their men?

Thanks
dementedma · 01/04/2012 21:27

Oven pride is a new discovery for me and is WONDERFUL! Bung trays/racks in a plastic bag of solution, leave overnight, rinse. Easy peasy. I LOVE this stuff. i have a clean oven for the first time in years.

MummyPocPoc · 01/04/2012 22:06

You need only clean an oven once. Smile After it's clean you line the sides (before replacing the rack / shelf support thingies) and the bottom with tin foil.

Every few weeks replace said tin foil when oozing shite has been dripping on them.

And as a poster mentioned up this thread, soak the racks, trays, etc in biological washing powder solution in the bath (I use old baby bath and leave it outside in the garden overnight).

Or you can put the shelves / racks in the dishwasher, after first spraying them with kitchen spray stuff. Long hot cycle.

Easy!

MaureenMLove · 01/04/2012 22:19

I cleaned mine today, for the first time in about 3 years. Blush

I sprayed on the Mr M oven cleaner, then whilst waiting for 30 mins for it to work, I gathered rubber gloves, kitchen roll, bowl of clean water, etc. etc. I even needed a scraper!

Turned out, I needn't have ignored it for 3 years. Turned out my Rangemaster has removeable sides and top, which took about 30 seconds each to clean and the bottom of the oven took one single wipe and all the gunk came off! Grin

So now I know, I'll do it more often. (Or remember that it only took 5mins to clean 3 years gunk, so not worry again! Grin)
