I need new set of pans. Ideally I'd like ones that could go in the oven and the handles not get too hot, as well as dishwasher safe too. Budget £150.
Any recommendations?

Ikea or TK Maxx

NeilsBoar · 27/03/2012 20:05

Circulon by Anolon £112 for 5 from Amazon - I got my first pair about 10 years ago, and 1 more about a year ago; the first two are still going strong and the new one has a completely metal handle so can go in the oven.

They're dishwasher safe, but knowing friends who've also got them; they don't last as long if you do dishwasher them - and there's no point as they're so easy to clean...

NeilsBoar · 27/03/2012 20:06

forgot to say; handles stay very cool (far better than the cheap imitation one I have) - unless you put them in the oven, but then no pan is going to have a cool handle after being in the oven (unless its magic Grin)

NeilsBoar · 27/03/2012 20:11

Although if the handle had really low thermal conductivity then it wouldn't feel that hot even though it was...

Piffle · 27/03/2012 20:13

I have circulon and think they are cack

NeilsBoar · 27/03/2012 20:15

I don't have any TK Maxx or Ikea ones to compare with; maybe I'm missing out?

SeaweedNK · 27/03/2012 20:17

Stellar stainless steel pans are the best. They look like new forever and are so much nicer to cook with than non-stick.

Gentleness · 27/03/2012 21:19

I coveted Circulon pans since I first heard of them and after several years ended up with one - so boring to be so excited about it but I was. Since then I have had 2 circulon saute/stirfry pans and both have become horrible - you just can't clean those little grooves out once something like egg or cheese has been cooked on a little too much. Very disappointed given the hype. I'm returning mine under the guarantee scheme and we'll see what they come up with.

I've had 2 different brand Anolon saucepans for a couple of years and they are BRILLIANT. I rave about them. My other ones are Meyer stainless steel and between them I am pretty well set up.

I got the best frying pan ever based on Amazon reviews a couple of years ago and it is so amazingly good that I have been looking for others in the range ever since. Meyer Professional Choice. I now have 2 more larger frying pans in the range but haven't seen anything else

I am a sad, boring, little person. Good pans make me so happy.

BagofHolly · 27/03/2012 21:23

Hmm! All v interesting! So gentleness, would your Pan Of Choice be Meyer Professional?

Gentleness · 27/03/2012 21:30

Bah - my stainless steel ones are Stellar too, not Meyer. Excellent. I didn't think I needed any non-stick till my mum bought me the Anolon ones for Christmas and I fell in love Blush.

Piffle · 27/03/2012 23:56

I have induction and dry fry a lot of spices...
The frying pans from Circulon have gone bad but the Ikea one is robust
We only hand wash too but all the Circulons are chipped and peeling edges
Back to Le Creuset for me

PigletJohn · 28/03/2012 00:59

Iron is very heavy

aluminium I don't like, it corrodes in the d/wr and leaves black marks on the sink

stainless for me. Brushed finish not mirror, as it doesn't show marks easily. I got Judge ones, a set plus some big extras.

i am annoyed with non-stick because it wears out.

Piffle · 28/03/2012 13:17

I always wash pans by hand so the washing is neither here nor there...
I find the Le Creuset last so much better

yes, Le Creuset (and any other enamelled iron pan) last a long time, but when you get less muscular, you will find them heavy.

Gentleness · 28/03/2012 14:32

Sorry - missed your post BagofHolly! Definitely Meyer ProfChoice for frying pans. A mix of Anolon and stainless steel for saucepans. I've heard good things about M&S and Ikea pans but I'm stocked up now so no more spending for a while!

LeCreuset has never appealed to me because of the weight - I have carpal tunnel syndrome and can't lift at a twisted angle the way you need to with pan handles. And I don't really see the point when stainless steel is lighter and excellent.

DJwag · 15/02/2013 10:24

just to add my 2 penni'worth.
we have had a Meyer Anolon professional frying pan (sold with the meyer lifetime guarantee) for the last 9 years and over the last 3 or so it has started to stick with certain foods (not too bad at first, but now getting annoying).
anyone else had a problem with the anolon non stick layer wearing away?
regards, DJ.

PigletJohn · 16/02/2013 13:41

With non-stick, after washing, polish the inside with a drop of cooking oil on kitchen roll until it shines, it really does help. Especially if they have been in a dishwasher. You can do the same with plain iron pans.

Stainless frypans however will always stick.
