Top Tips for defrosting a freezer please

I'm defrosting the freezer today & am already annoyed at how long it's taking the ice to melt. Got any handy hints for me to try before I get a knife out & start trying to hack it off? and injure myself

It's an upright fridge freezer, I have the door open, a bowl of hot water in the bottom & towels on the floor. What else can I do to speed the process up?

Steam cleaner if you have one is brilliant. Very quick.

Box/tray in the bottom to catch the drips.

Roasting tins of boiling water - at least 2 and gently lever the ice off as it melts, with a blunt knife, of course!

Be careful with the knife that you don't puncture the freezer - also don't electrocute yourself with the hair dryer!

No steam cleaner or fan heater here Sad, but plenty of oven trays & a trusty hair dryer!

The hair dryer has really speeded things up (I am being very careful!), and I've been using a nice blunt wooden spatula to 'encourage' some of the lumps of ice off.

All that's left now are some lumps of ice right at the top at the back which I can't reach with my spatula.... am off to find a longer implement now!
