I am watching an old episode of "How clean is your house?" and it got me to thinking..... what are your top tips for cleaning?
I recently became a SAHM and am looking for tips on how to do the basic jobs well. Of course tips of any kind welcome. I'm planning to put some kind of folder together with perhaps a whole section called "MN Top Tips".
Thank you!!

Work top to bottom in each room.
Have cleaning box/bag with everything in it so you can take it room to room.
Always hoover last.
Don't go overboard on cleaning products - you need relatively few.
Use microfibre cloths - they are excellent for all kinds of jobs.
Try to have a routine.
Use the right product for the job - eg furniture polish on mirrors will always leave smears.

Anything in particular you wanted tips on, like bathroom or whatever?

White vinegar and bicarb clean almost anything.

crystal thanks, just general tips really.

flisspaps I've heard that, does it smell tho, will my house end up like the chippy?!

I have sorted through my cupboard of cleaning stuff and binned things that I have not used for years and a huge box of hand wash powder that took up half the space in there. Haven't hand washed in ages since I got a machine with appropriate cycles. At least I have now made space for catering size packs of microfibre cloths, bicarbonate and white vinegar!

ANiceCup not at all, once it is dry the vinegar doesn't smell. If you're really worried you can use a bit of lemon juice with it (then you just smell lemony)

Microwave - put a bowl of water in and zap till it's boiling. Leave for 5 mins then wipe out. So easy.

Get some Astonish Paste - if nothing else will shift it, this will.

If you are in a hard water area, use Limelite or equivalent every week, it prevents build up. White vinegar works too.

Stinky sink - chuck in some bicarb followed by white vinegar. Satisfying fizz that shifts grease and gunk. Follow with a kettle of boiling water.

Don't bother with window cleaning sprays. Mild soapy water and a cloth to buff. No streaks.

Use your hoover - on curtains, skirting boards, the toaster, the oven, cobwebs, cats, dogs... :)
