Cash and Carry - how do I get to shop there?

I've just posted a thread asking why supermarket pricing is so "all over the place" when it occurred to me that maybe cash and carry was a better answer.

What do I have to do to get a card to allow me to shop there - or Bookers - or wherever?

Advice gratefully received!

I think most c&c's, allow for individual members. Mine asked for id and proof of address. I then paid £30 and off I have gone.

I actually like mine for bulk buying (envious of those with a pantry). I and BF go every 6 weeks, usually dragging another friend with us. I have the card, she has the card and it actually works out really well.

It would proably be a good idea to find out if a friend has a card and go with her first, to see if you think it is a good discount. Sometimes its not.

Hope this helps.

Just read your other post. If you like named products then cash and carry is good. But have you tried downloading one of those apps? My OH is desperate for me to do so. There are several that let you either scan the barcode or type in a number and then searches for the best deal.

The Bookers I use insists on a genuine business, and before opening an account, requires copies of the business bank account, utility bills or business rates or tax documents, and trade invoices (probably some other docs as well, I can't remember). I presume they carry out some kind of credit check between the application and issuing the card. The cards and invoices are made out in the business name, and they record (up to) two named individuals to shop there, typically the business owner and the manager. The names of these individuals can be changed, for example when people leave or change jobs.

A lot of the people who shop there are B&B owners, though they also supply goods suitable for restaurants, bars and caterers, I would guess that a larger establishment would buy direct from a supplier. Their fresh meat counter has beef joints at £50 or more. They stock vast boxes of Persil. Some of their goods (e.g. wines, beers and spirits are sometimes more expensive than in the supermarkets, and sometimes not. They stock some items that are of no use domestically, for example supplies for glass-washing machines, and sachets of sugar.

Costco has Individual and Trade cards. DH and I are NHS employees so we have one.

Alot of things are more expensive than supermarket deals. And some of their ranges are limited.

But if they do have offers, they can be less than half price.
I buy binbags (exciting Grin )
Capri Sun, Appletise, J2O -all much cheaper
Sometimes detergent (big box professional)

And loads of things that are unusual.
But if you think, ooh I want a kettle, they might have 2 or 3 , but they'll be branded.

Their own brand (Kirkland) is good. I buy looroll and kitchen paper.
They had sheepskin 'Ugg style' boots for DD that were £15.She got a pair 2 winters ago, still going strong.

I actually find booker more expensive than costco. I just took my business cheque book with me and a utility bill.

The only thing I cant buy cheaper is costco bacon, but the last lot was shit so we have aldi treacle cured now.

Thanks for all that info; I need to do a bit of local research. I have a friend who goes to one in Reading - Costco, I think, but its about an hours drive from here, so would have to be worth it.
My local Village shop uses a Bookers which is closer. I presumed that it was all cheaper, but obviously not. I'm not a 'brands' person - as long as it does the job, its fine by me.
I like the look of using an app for checking... it seems to me that to get a decent deal, we have to become very wise women!
Any idea, craigslitteangel which app to go for?
