Cleaning upstairs windows

We have got rid of our window cleaner due to money issues. But I can't figure out how to clean the outside of the upstairs windows. I can't reach most of the outside glass from the inside and I'm not keen on using a ladder to get so high up. So I owndered if anyone had any tips?

Do you have modern double glazes windows? In mine you can open them fully and then flick up a catch that lets you turn them effectively inside out so you can clean them. it might be worth a fiddle about to see if yours do that too. Mine are just standard modern windows in a new build so nothing fancy or expensive.

I also have something like this, but a cheaper version I got in home bargains for a couple of pounds that reaches the secon floor if I stand on a set of steps as I won't go up ladders either.

Its not amazing but gets the thick off. I do have a window cleaner but I seem to live in a wind tunnel and when it has been windy there is that much muck and dust on the windows you would think they had never been cleaned! This frshens them up!

No I don't have modern windows, they don't flick around at all. I'll have a look in home bargains for the thing you mention - thanks. I am fine with a set of steps, just not a ladder high enough to reach 1st floor windows!

dh just hoses ours, then scrape off with one of those blade thingys. It's not perfect, but our window cleaners have disappeared Confused

Sounds good - but presumably you have to reach the window with the blade thing. And taht is my issue really. Anyone planning to look in home bargains thsi weekend, so hopefully I will find what I need. Thank you.

Ah, you can get one that has a long pole attached and you just extend it Smile

lesley33 · 16/03/2012 13:46

Oh thanks. Do you know where you get that from?

I bought DH a kit with an extension pole from Home Bargains - was around £5.

Our is, as yet, unused but my Dad has one and uses it regularly so I know it works well.
