Good supplier of engineered wood flooring?

DH and I renovating our hall and have been thinking of different types of flooring. We're not keen on laminate, carpet is impractical, tiles too cold. We were thinking about solid wood but our (brilliant) joiner has warned us that solid wood floors move around too much and he spends a lot of time going to people's houses whose floors have warped, shrunk etc after a while. He recommended engineered wood.

Can anyone who has it give me an idea of what they think of it and let us know of any reasonable suppliers of good quality engineered wood.

All help gratefully received. Smile

It is good but for high traffic areas I'd go for solid wood as you can sand it down if it gets scratched. The engineered wood only has a very small layer of wood on top of the ply.
If you let the solid wood flooring acclimatise in your house for two weeks before you lay it it's fine.
I bought all my flooring from travis Perkins builders merchants, they were really helpful and will deliver to your house.
They do engineered stuff too and had lots of samples and brochures and gave me about 30% off.
Cost wise we paid about 2500 for lounge and kitchen which was around 30 per sqm

I got mine from local carpet place but it's great. Much warmer than bare floorboards and looks lovely - everyone comments on it. We had it for a couple of weeks before putting it down, so it could acclimatise.

Ooo, get a good underlay too

Its ok, it doesnt keep as clean as I thought and chips very easily. Over use with a damp cloth will eventually leave staining and watch sun damage. I would go for tiles anyday. Unsure of the life span of this floor here but its had a good battering.

Solid wood flooring is better quality and unless the children soak it then it shouldnt warp. Depends on how its fixed down.

I went for a flooring direct from the timber merchants and hate it, the boards are too narrow and short. Wish I'd gone for a company called Broadleaf. They do burnt edges and looks fantastic. Mine is too blonde and looks over modern. I would def look at top notch tiles as grit sticks to laminate and looks constantly grubby.
