I've managed to stop Dh buying bottled water by getting a jug water filter. But it keeps going green esp where different layers of plastic overlap. Any ideas if I can stop this or am have I added another kitchen item to clean?!

yes filters need to be cleaned every 3 week or so at least.
also only put enough water in there to last you a day at most, water is quite perishable unless it's treated and/or filled in sterile environment.

Ditch it and persuade him to drink tap water Grin

do you keep it in the fridge?

yes, you do need to clean and sterilise it.

Try to keep it in a dark(ish) place: the green mould grows best in sunlight and second best in bright light. When I clean mine I soak it in Milton type steriliser for an hour to make sure it is "healthy".

when we had one i washed it in the washing up water when i changed the filter, so every four weeks.

if i didn't manage this then yes, it smelled a bit foisty and green mould started to appear... i didn't sterilise it or soak it or anything, but i was very thorough with the washing and did it first, in the hottest bit of the washing up water.
