ants taking over my kitchen

i have been trying for a couple of months to eradicate ants from my kitchen.

i can't see a nest, or any obvious place they could be coming from.

it started off with the odd one or two on the floor, the occasional one on the worktop.

i bought an ant killing spray, spray it liberally, wash my kitchen floor & work tops down with vinegar & water (i was told vinegar supposedly deters them), it seems like they're gone, don't see one for a few weeks.

then today, they're back. a horde of them on my worktop, the odd one on the floor, the final straw was opening one of my high-up cupboards & finding a couple trying to get in there. i even spied one running up the kitchen door!

my mum mentioned some gadget thing that supposedly gets them all within 6 days, but it was reliant upon you putting it near the nest/point of entry (& i can't bloody find it) so not sure it would work.

what can i do, is there any products you would recommend, it's driving me mad & it's giving me the major boak.

Arrhh I really feel for you! We live on a ground floor flat and we had ants getting in every room 2 summers ago! (Yep bedroom too!) I hoovered them up when I could and I just put ant powder down outside around the perimeter of the house. They just seemed to disappear!

That's no help at all is it... I'm sorry. I've heard that them little poison food things work though because they take it back to the nest and kill the rest of the little beastys. You can get them from pet at home!

I live abroad and we are plagued by ants!! Raid do a good spray, but we have one called zum, which lasts up to 6 months. You may be able to get it online? We have to keep all opened food in plastic containers, or you can use pegs to make sure they aren't attracted in by any open food, sugar, cereals etc. Clear out all cupboards, spray in every nook and cranny. Remember that alot of wiping down surfaces will remove the spray. We have litttle boxes here that you can buy, they do kill the ants, but I just find piles of dead ants everywhere...and cockroaches... they are made by raid, too! Could they be after food left out for pets? They are normally after something!!! Good luck!

I feel your pain.
Every year or so they infest my kitchen.
Ant powder round the skirting boards at night.

My DDs are old enough to leave it alone so I leave it to do it's job for a day or two then Hoover it up.

There is a gap between my skirting boards and my tiles and I think that's where the little darlings sneak in. Fortunately ant powder lives happily in this gap too.

Nippon gel is really good. It comes in a tube like miniature toothpaste and you put a drop on a non-absorbent surface such as a coin. They carry it home and share it with ther nest.

Try an 'Antstop' bait station. It was very effective and fast.

I tried the sprays but they were no good.

Try Cinnamon. Works for me. Just put some where you see mostly see the ants and after a couple of days they seem to disappear.
