Tumble Dryer

Have found out I'm expecting in October with my first.

Currently don't have a tumble dryer - just have a clothes airer. I have a feeling that a tumble dryer with a little one is a necessity...

Cash is a little tight at the moment, DH has just been given a 3 month warning that he will be being made redundant (fantastic timing) and I'm wondering if we could survive without a tumble dryer.

Any thoughts??

We live in a flat. We have a tumble dryer. In the summer I hang some things on a clothes airer but spent too many winters with washing draped over radiators to be without one. Are you planning on using washable nappies?
Congratulations on the baby! Fingers crossed for your dh job.

Congratulations!

I have a washer dryer and a 9 month old. We've used washable nappies from day 1 and never used the dryer bit of the machine. I use it occasionally for fluffing up towels, but otherwise line dry everything.

If money is tight, I wouldn't bother. Dryers eat electricity at an alarming rate.

I use reusable nappies with our little one (10 weeks) and don't have a tumble drier, so it is possible it just depends on whether you can live with the airer being up permanently quite a bit.

I got a couple of these to increase drying space/help dry quickly

www.aplaceforeverything.co.uk/home-storage/radiator-towel-racks-x2?ret=7 they're supposed to be radiator towel rails, but I use to dry baby grows and it still allows heat from radiator out to keep the room warm.

I have 2 children (and a dh) and a washer drier where the drier only gets used on rare occasions (multiple bed accidents, sickness, etc). I have 2 clothes airers and use them instead - much cheaper

I've not had many thoughts yet (!) as it all still feels quite unreal. Was planning on disposable I suppose, but good to know people can manage reusable without a dryer. I was thinking just more the sheer volume of washing what with babies being notoriously vomitty and pooey! Wink
