Beer on new kitchen table!

Last night a DEAR friend of my DP spilled an entire pint of stella over my new kitchen table (and a whole pad of Uni notes and articles Angry ) it's a very lightly treated beech one from ikea, the type that you can paint if you want to.
To credit him he scrubbed it straight away but it still stinks and I think it's seeped into the wood.
Help me stop my kitchen smelling likethe Old Vic!

Sprinkle bicarb all over it?

diamondsonthesolesofhershoes · 29/02/2012 17:56

Is that just on it's own or should I mix it with anything? Then how do I clean it off...
I am completely pants at this kind of thing, Kim & Aggie would not be pleased!

I imagine just on its own - worth a go.

Thanks valium :)

I don't know if it will wok but bicarb does remove smells so worth a go!

Don't worry about it - it's a kitchen table (from Ikea) they're meant to look lived-in as it were.

keep sponging it with a barely-damp sponge with a tiny drop of WUL.

If it has joints in it that the beer could have soaked into, a barely-damp soft paintbrush might get (some) bristles into the gap.

the smell will fade in time.

If it is solid wood and not some kind of man-made board, a bit of short-term moisture won't hurt it. A kitchen table should shrug off spills and cleaning.

fluffi I am a massive fan of the lived-in look, but not so much of a fan of my kitchen smelling like a tramp has set up home in it! :o
Piglet Thanks! I've just been cleaning it as normal, but sprinkling a bit of bicarb around here and there, seems to be fading!

Glad to hear you're winning diamonds. When it's all better could you oil it?

diamondsonthesolesofhershoes · 02/03/2012 13:47

I think I will, the original plan was to paint it but I never get round to my original plans!
