To Sand or Not To Sand...

Our house was built in around 1920 and I've just removed the old vinyl floor tiles from the dining room. There are floorboards underneath and I'd like to strip them.

Trouble is the bitumin type adhesive stuff they were stuck down with looks like it will be horrendous to strip with a floor sander. Its not a large room to do but I now feel a bit daunted and could do with any advice going!

if there is a bitumen coating, it will soften and clog the sander. I don't think it will be practicable to do what you want.

If it was Hampton Court, you could take the floorboards up and replace them upside down.

I think you will have to look at applying an engineered or laminate on top.
