Vinyl floor, bugger to clean, can i steam it?

Hi there :)

We have vinyl flooring in the kitchen which has a sort of textured effect to it. The actual effect is that dirt gets in the texture and is a bugger to clean. Moping takes off superficial muck but doesnt really get it clean. The only thing i find effective is a scrubbing brush which works really well but is blooming hard work and at 7 months pregnant i cant face it.

Am thinking there must be an easier option. Saw advert on tv for steam floor cleaner, vax type thing, and wondered whether this might do the trick? Im looking for something non chemical if poss as have pets and soon to be little person.

Any domestic goddesses out there with tips?

It's a fairly old one that I think I got from a shopping channel, it doesn't have a brand name anywhere on it! It looks like a cylinder vacuum cleaner, and for hard floors you put a kind of towelling sock over the floor brush. It's pretty revolting when you see how much dirt has come off the floor!

Hmm sorry folks. Totally forgot to update, think i was distracted by he sheer disappointment that one steam didnt get every bit of much off. It was better, but still a mile from clean like with the scrubbing brush, however it was pretty grubby and i only did it once before losing enthusiasm. So, will tomorrow be going over it again with serious enthusiasm because the health visitor is coming later and see how it goes. Maybe it needs a scrub to get off the serious neglected stuff and then steaming will keep it nice.

So, not a wonder cure, but easy and quick and better than a mop, but not quite a scrub.

I know this is a zombie thread but its not outdated and i actually have this same problem. I have a steam cleaner and tried it a few times with little success and am wondering if anyone else has found somethjng that works other than hands and knees with a scrubbing brush. My kitchen is massive. We are shoes off but also have a dog and kitchen is straight off the garden which is only newly seeded a few weeks ago so quite muddy.

We have karndean vinyl flooring and I use a sainsburys steam floor mop about once a week. We are a multi pet muddy boot type household and I find it gets my floor sparkling clean with very little effort so I've no idea why it's not working for you.
