Recommendations for waterproof sheets - which are the best?

I've got the cheapest available on ebay right now on the kids' beds, but they make a crinkly, plasticky noise when you move around, so thought I'd treat them to a silent night!

Are there nice, soft, reliable waterproof sheets out there, that ideally can be tumble dried?

Dunelm sell ones that are towelling on top, and flexible soft rubber underneath. Not noisy at all, and definitely effective.

I have tumble dried them with no problem.

justabigdisco · 28/02/2012 11:14

I got mine from John Lewis - not cheap but v soft and not crinkly. Have only washed once so far - it said 'don't tumble dry' but I put it in on a cool tumble and it was fine. Might be brave enough for normal setting next time (low heat tho).

The3Bears · 28/02/2012 11:22

I have one for ds's bed from next its great, I wash and tumble dry it every 2 weeks. Its v soft I think it was £20 but well worth it :)

When my Mum was bedridden the District Nurses recommended the Kylie bed pads. The name made Mum laugh. They are great though, a kind of felt pad with a waterproof layer. I used one for DS at night and it was infinitely washable and very comfy. Much better than a waterproof sheet, they just cover the necessary area.

I have this one from natural mat for my dd's.

DD1's is nearly 6 years old & in perfect condition still. Breathable waterproof layer is completely enclosed on both sides by cotton flannel. I have slept on it multiple times & it is Is completely imperceptible on the bed.

They weren't cheap but have been worth every penny - absorb accidents well & wash & tumble dry well, only slight negative is that they take a lot of drying, but this is due to the amount they can absorb so a necessary compromise.

Can't beat hippychick. Whether you can afford them is another matter, lol!

ImpYCelyn · 28/02/2012 21:29

I think mine are hippychick - they are excellent, but pricey!

RoughShooting · 28/02/2012 21:34

Right, will get googling based on your posts - cheap is nice with three kids, so will see what I can get in budget. Thank you, I didn't know where to start.

Another vote for Dunelm, they are very well reviewed.

SharkBite · 28/02/2012 21:38

I have Hippychick - they are lovely and soft and wash (and dry) very well

LakeFlyPie · 28/02/2012 21:49

Another vote for Hippychick, far superior to the cheaper version (sorry, can't remember where it came from) I have on the spare bed.

BoBoo · 29/02/2012 13:08

Another Hippychick vote. They're on both my girls beds. Soft, don't make crinkly noises at all and soak everything up when there's an accident. Put through the tumble drier with no problems and you can pick them up (new) a little bit cheaper on ebay.

SaraBellumHertz · 29/02/2012 13:10

John lewis ones are great. Toweling top, no crinkling and not too expensive IIRC

WelshMoth · 29/02/2012 20:40

Can I hijack?

I'm noting these recommendations with interest. But needed to ask about duvet covers - my youngest kicks one leg out of her duvet and IF she has an accident, it has also soaked the duvet too. Does anyone use waterproof duvet covers?

BoBoo · 03/03/2012 09:24

Haven't tried waterproof duvet covers. While it's a pain, the duvet covers and small duvet are easy enough to deal with (and wash), the mattress no so much.

SwivellingDicksTidyWife · 03/03/2012 11:00

I have used waterproof covered duvets at work and they are horrible to sleep with, sweaty rubbery things. I just buy cheap duvets for the childrens beds TBH.

DilysPrice · 03/03/2012 11:15

Hippychick - mine have lasted well for 7 years.

crustyonion · 04/03/2012 09:35

Another vote for Hippychick. I bought 2 and grimaced at the price, but I am so thankful now. The ones my MIL bought from Mothercare have been replaced 3 times now & the DCs only stay at hers once a fortnight. Think she must wash them even if they haven't been soiled. The Hippychick ones are still immaculate.

mousymouseafraidofdogs · 04/03/2012 09:47

mattress protector from ikea sort of terry material on top, soft plastic underneath. doesn't feel at all like sleeping on plastic. washes well and dries quickly.

mousymouseafraidofdogs · 04/03/2012 09:50

we have thin duvets for the dc (again from ikea). when I wash in the morning they are dry in time for bed.

mottobhai · 17/11/2014 07:55

hello

willistheeggman · 14/10/2015 12:59

Hi

The best waterproof mattress protector out there is the Kylie Waterproof. I've got one on my bed, you wouldn't know it was there!

It has a silent waterproof backing and the top is a soft jersey cotton:

www.kyliekanga.co.uk/kylie-mattress-protectors/

But for more serious bedwetting where you have a lot to soak up I second the Kylie Bed Pad as mentioned earlier in the thread - It's been around for years and is mostly used for older people, but the smallest size one fits perfectly on a toddler bed :-)

www.kyliekanga.co.uk/kylie-bed-pads/

You can machine wash and tumble dry both of them

As for duvet covers they make fully waterproof duvets (not just covers, the whole duvet is waterproof). These aren't the nasty plasticky type, they are smooth and breathable and pretty soft. Maybe a bit stiffer than normal ones but wipe clean and very convenient.

Hope this helps!
